Product Manager, Networking Features

Tailscale

About The Position

Tailscale is seeking a Product Manager to own its networking features: App Connectors, DNS, Funnel, and Tailscale Serve & Services. These features make Tailscale’s mesh connectivity useful by turning device addresses into names, services, applications, and URLs. App Connectors route traffic to SaaS and private applications by name; DNS includes MagicDNS, split DNS, custom name servers, and search domains; Tailscale Serve & Services make workloads addressable, load-balanced, and durable across instances; and Funnel securely exposes services from a tailnet to the public internet. The role owns the product design and operator experience for these networking surfaces. Network engineers and IT administrators configure them through the admin console, API, and CLI, so the product’s object model, defaults, and error messages are central to making the experience clear and usable. The Product Manager will set the vision, strategy, and roadmap; support customers adopting Tailscale in production; and build customer insight across use cases ranging from hobbyist services to enterprise service-registry replacement.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of product management experience, including direct ownership of an application-layer connectivity product such as a reverse proxy, ingress controller or gateway, API gateway, service mesh or service registry, DNS and traffic management product, secure tunneling and exposure product, or identity-aware proxy connector.
  • A track record of turning a complex networking system into a clear product surface, with the ability to explain the rationale for an object model, defaults, or configuration experience designed.
  • End-to-end ownership of a product area, including strategy, requirements, launch activities such as documentation, enablement, and rollout, and post-launch iteration.
  • Evidence of data-informed decision-making, including metrics defined, instrumentation advocated for, and at least one example of data changing a decision.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Product Led Growth and balancing it with enterprise buying motions.
  • Kubernetes networking experience, such as ingress, Gateway API, operators, or service exposure patterns.
  • Hands-on experience building or extensively using secure tunneling and exposure products such as ngrok, Cloudflare Tunnel, Cloudflare Access, Teleport, or Zscaler Private Access.
  • Experience in abuse prevention, rate limiting, or trust and safety for a publicly exposed service.
  • Familiarity with VPN and tunneling protocols such as WireGuard and IPsec, BGP, cloud VPC peering, or PrivateLink-style private connectivity.
  • Public technical writing, conference talks, or open-source contributions in networking.
  • Hands-on experience with Tailscale at work or at home.

Responsibilities

  • Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for App Connectors, DNS, Funnel, and Tailscale Services.
  • Own the operator experience across networking features, including how network engineers and IT administrators configure, segment, monitor, and troubleshoot them at scale in the admin console and CLI.
  • Partner with Go-to-Market, Customer Success, and Solutions Engineering on production commitments and strategic deals.
  • Champion customer migration from reverse proxies, bastion hosts, cloud ingress, and service meshes to Tailscale.
  • Build systematic customer insight across the range of Tailscale users and use cases.

Benefits

  • Competitive total compensation package including base salary, equity incentive plan, and variable commission for quota-based roles.
  • Comprehensive health, vision, and dental coverage for employees and families, with no waiting period.
  • Employer-funded retirement contributions, matching employee contributions dollar-for-dollar up to an annual employer contribution of 0.75% of eligible compensation.
  • $1,500 USD annually for professional development, plus mentorship, coaching, and internal promotion opportunities.
  • Flexible paid time off.
  • Company-owned laptop choice (Mac or PC), monthly home internet reimbursement, and $500 USD for workstation setup.
  • Paid parental leave top-ups: 20 weeks for birthing parents and 16 weeks for non-birthing parents.
  • Flexible work environment and corporate coworking program.
  • Annual company retreat, team off-sites, and support for team travel and in-person collaboration.
