About The Position

SOCAN is seeking a Product Manager, Portal & Member Services to own and evolve its Member Portal and related digital products. These platforms are crucial for music industry stakeholders like songwriters, composers, publishers, and managers to manage accounts, access music catalogs, review royalty information, and interact with support services. This is a strategic role that blends business, technology, and user experience, focusing on shaping product vision, driving member outcomes, and enabling internal teams through clear priorities, strong product practices, and effective stakeholder alignment.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in product management, digital platforms, or portal based products
  • 3 years of experience working with complex, data driven systems [e.g., financial reporting, catalogs, CRM (e.g. Dynamics) and ERP platforms] and exposure to CMS tools, or analytics platforms
  • Post secondary education in computer science, product management or other related field
  • Proven ability to own products end to end and manage competing priorities across multiple initiatives
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and decision making skills
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and complex workflows

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the music industry, music publishing, media, or rights management preferred
  • Familiarity with royalty processing, music catalog management, or metadata standards an asset
  • Experience with external facing portals supporting multiple user roles and permissions an asset

Responsibilities

  • Own the product vision and roadmap for the Member Portal and a broader portfolio of member facing and internal products.
  • Balance near term delivery with long term value, aligning enhancements with business priorities, regulatory needs, and member outcomes.
  • Use data, research, and operational insights (e.g., usage analytics, support tickets, member feedback) to gather requirements, identify pain points and opportunities, and define key feature / experience requirements.
  • Identify cross product dependencies and drive portfolio level prioritization decisions.
  • Own and prioritize the product backlog, defining features, enhancements, and bug fixes in partnership with Business Analysts and delivery teams.
  • Provide clear problem statements, outcomes, and priorities to enable high quality requirements and user stories.
  • Partner with delivery teams through sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, and go live readiness.
  • Make scope and priority trade off decisions to maintain momentum and maximize business impact.
  • Design and evolve a scalable product management framework covering discovery, delivery, measurement, and lifecycle management.
  • Establish shared standards for product artifacts (e.g., product briefs, roadmaps, OKRs, metrics).
  • Coach and mentor peers in product thinking, discovery techniques, and outcome oriented delivery.
  • Develop playbooks, templates, and learning materials to strengthen product capability across the organization.
  • Lead release enablement and adoption planning, including release notes, FAQs, training content, and rollout readiness.
  • Build trusted relationships with key stakeholders across Royalty Collections, Royalty Services and Operations, Finance, Information Technology, and Membership, including those who represent the interests of publishers, songwriters, and composers.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for product strategy, prioritization, and trade off decisions.
  • Engage external stakeholders to validate needs and test proposed solutions.
  • Provide clear, executive level updates on vision, progress, risks, and decisions required.
  • Apply service design methods (e.g., journey mapping, service blueprinting) to understand end to end member experiences.
  • Ensure product decisions are grounded in user research, usability principles, and real member needs.
  • Define and track key product metrics and KPIs in partnership with analytics teams.
  • Champion experimentation, hypothesis driven development, and continuous improvement.
  • Translate data into clear insights and recommendations for leaders and stakeholders.
