About The Position

Benchling is seeking a Product Manager for its Scientific Development Solutions team. This role focuses on products like Recipes, Assays, and Workflows, which are crucial for scientists in drug development. The team launched Bioprocess in 2024 and has a partnership with Merck to enhance vaccine development. The vision is to significantly accelerate the biopharma industry's ability to bring therapies to patients. This position involves complex configuration, workflow orchestration, and behavior change, requiring a systems thinker with strong product intuition who can quickly adapt to new domains. A life sciences background is not required; diverse backgrounds with transferable skills are highly valued.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of product management or equivalent experience.
  • A diverse career history with experience across 2-3+ meaningfully different domains or product types.
  • Demonstrated product taste, with a track record of building and improving products.
  • Ability to translate user requirements into valuable features and understand user behavior change.
  • Architectural fluency, including experience guiding product architectural decisions (data models, state machines, schema design).
  • Technical tool competency, including resourcefulness in using tools for data-driven decisions and prototyping.
  • Clear communication skills, with the ability to lead conversations and adapt communication style to the audience.
  • A track record of achieving outcomes and demonstrating impact in previous roles.
  • Intellectual range and genuine curiosity, demonstrated through learning and problem-solving approaches.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in regulated or compliance-heavy industries.
  • Experience with configuration-heavy, platform-style products.
  • Experience in B2B SaaS at a growth/scaling stage.
  • Prior experience as an engineer, data scientist, or solutions consultant.

Responsibilities

  • Define product strategy and roadmap for Recipes, Assays, and Workflows.
  • Collaborate with customers and Go-To-Market (GTM) teams to understand user needs and translate them into product requirements.
  • Work closely with design, engineering, GTM, and customers to build and launch products.
  • Guide product decisions with design and engineering teams.
  • Validate product ideas early with customers.
  • Enable customer experience teams on shipped products.
  • Partner with GTM teams to bring products to market.
  • Utilize tools such as SQL and AI to enhance effectiveness in data analysis, prototyping, and summarizing customer feedback.
