Product Manager – Payments

B-StockSan Mateo, CA
5h$140,000 - $160,000

About The Position

We are looking for an experienced Product Manager to own Payments at B-Stock. This role sits at the heart of how buyers and sellers transact across our marketplace — covering payment infrastructure, third-party integrations, and the workflows that move money reliably at scale. You will work closely with engineering, finance, operations, and logistics to define requirements, ship features, and continuously improve how payments work across our platform. This role is ideal for someone who is energized by complex systems, thrives in cross-functional environments, and brings enough payments or fintech experience to move quickly without a long ramp. Experience with vendors like Stripe, GetBalance, or NetSuite is a plus — but we are hiring a strong product manager first.

Requirements

  • Work experience: 3+ years of product management experience, with at least 2 years focused on payments, fintech, or financial infrastructure, preferably within a B2B, SaaS, marketplace, or e-commerce environment.
  • Education: BA/BS/MS degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field.
  • Track record: Demonstrated history of shipping payment features or integrations with measurable business impact.
  • Tools: Proficiency in product management and collaboration tools; comfort working with technical documentation and API-level concepts.
  • Payments familiarity: Experience working on or alongside payment systems — including concepts such as ACH, wire transfers, credit card processing, net terms, automated billing, or reconciliation; depth in some areas is valued over breadth in all.
  • Integration experience: Hands-on experience managing third-party payment platform integrations such as Stripe, GetBalance, NetSuite, or comparable vendors.
  • Technical fluency: Ability to read API documentation, understand system architecture tradeoffs, and collaborate closely with engineering teams on complex integration decisions.
  • Data-driven decision making: Proficiency in defining KPIs, analyzing payment data, and using insights to drive prioritization and product decisions.
  • Requirements definition: Strong ability to write detailed PRDs and manage technical backlogs with minimal oversight.
  • Risk awareness: Comfortable working with cross-functional partners — finance, legal, operations — to identify and navigate fraud, compliance, and reconciliation considerations in complex B2B environments.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication for PRDs, stakeholder updates, and cross-functional alignment.
  • AI fluency: Comfortable leveraging AI tools — including Claude and Claude Code — to accelerate discovery, requirements writing, data analysis, and day-to-day product workflows; treats AI as a core productivity layer, not an afterthought.
  • Independence: Can work autonomously within a strategic framework, make sound product decisions, and deliver results consistently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with B2B marketplace, auction, or liquidation platforms
  • Background in financial operations, ERP systems, or reconciliation workflows
  • Familiarity with fraud detection tooling or risk management in payment ecosystems
  • Exposure to logistics, supply chain, or fulfillment workflows — especially where they intersect with payment triggers, dispute resolution, or operational reporting — is a strong bonus
  • History of improving payment-related KPIs through sustained product iteration
  • Experience supporting enterprise client migrations involving payment system changes
  • Familiarity with agile development processes and continuous delivery

Responsibilities

  • Lead product work across payments: Drive discovery, prioritization, and execution for payment systems including invoicing, disbursements, automated billing, and payment method infrastructure — while staying flexible to take on adjacent product areas as needs evolve.
  • Lead third-party integrations: Manage the full lifecycle of integrations with payment vendors such as Stripe, GetBalance, NetSuite, and future partners — from discovery and scoping through launch and iteration.
  • Drive key metrics: Define, track, and continuously improve payment-related KPIs including Time to Pay, payment success rates, and failure/chargeback rates.
  • Define requirements: Translate complex financial and technical requirements into detailed PRDs, user stories, and acceptance criteria that engineering teams can execute with minimal back-and-forth.
  • Identify and mitigate risk: Proactively surface and address risks related to fraud, payment compliance, and reconciliation gaps before they become customer-facing issues.
  • Partner cross-functionally: Collaborate closely with engineering, finance, operations, and account management to resolve integration challenges and ship reliable payment features.
  • Build payments fluency: Develop strong working knowledge of payment flows, reconciliation processes, and vendor capabilities to effectively represent the domain in cross-functional discussions.
  • Support enterprise clients: Partner with account management and engineering to manage payment-related client migrations and technical onboarding with minimal disruption.
  • Communicate with stakeholders: Clearly articulate product strategy, tradeoffs, and feature rationale to leadership, engineering, and client-facing teams across all areas you support.
  • Stay current: Keep up with product best practices, payment industry trends, emerging vendors, and relevant regulatory developments to continuously improve the areas you own.
