Product Manager, New Markets and Monetization

AnthropicSeattle, WA
$305,000 - $385,000Hybrid

About The Position

Anthropic's New Markets and Monetization team is dedicated to bringing transformational AI to every business. The Claude Platform is the means by which businesses build with Anthropic's AI models. This team focuses on ensuring that all industries, not just software, can leverage frontier AI through APIs and that those who build on Claude prosper. The work is divided into two reinforcing pillars: Verticals, which involves identifying and developing API markets for specific industries, and Monetization, which encompasses the commercial infrastructure enabling the platform to conduct business globally through partners, resellers, and other platforms. This role is for a founding product manager on this team, responsible for a specific area, working closely with a dedicated engineering lead and designer, and measured against company-level goals. Much of this work is foundational, requiring the product manager to define problems rather than simply receive them.

Requirements

  • End-to-end ownership of a developer platform, API, billing or money-movement product, or self-serve growth product, with accountability for its revenue or activation number (typically 5+ years as a PM, but ownership is prioritized over years).
  • Experience building with or shipping on top of large language models, with insights into how billing, identity, or distribution change when agents are customers.
  • Technical fluency: ability to read API docs, collaborate with engineers on billing, identity, or attribution design, and make decisions on platform primitives.
  • Data pulling capability: proficiency in SQL or equivalent for metric definition, funnel building, and market sizing.
  • Experience negotiating pricing, revenue share, or program terms with Finance, Legal, or Business Development counterparts.
  • Clear writing skills to articulate tradeoffs to engineers, executives, and external partners.
  • Alignment with Anthropic's mission, particularly regarding growing the platform in a way that allows builders to share in the upside.

Nice To Haves

  • 8+ years of product management experience.
  • Experience with metering, usage attribution, reseller or cloud-marketplace channels, or enterprise spend management.
  • Experience taking a developer platform into a new industry, or building product in healthcare, life sciences, financial services, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience growing a developer product's self-serve or startup business, including pricing and packaging.
  • Experience building account, identity, or subscription systems spanning multiple products.
  • Experience taking a product from zero to one, simultaneously defining users, product, and economics.

Responsibilities

  • Partner and platform billing: Metering, attributing, and billing usage that reaches Claude through partners, resellers, or other platforms, and defining associated program terms to enable indirect volume growth without proportional risk increase.
  • Spend observability and controls: Providing enterprise buyers with a precise view of their spending and its allocation, and implementing limits and controls, including programmatic options.
  • One account and the startup path: Creating a unified login and wallet for the API and Claude subscriptions, ensuring a seamless experience for a builder's initial commitment, production calls, and invoicing.
  • A vertical: Developing the platform strategy for a specific industry, identifying unmet builder needs, making strategic bets, and launching with industry-specific product and go-to-market partners.
  • Building on primitives owned by the Billing Platform and Auth & Identity teams, and shipping with Growth, Go-to-Market and Startups, Legal, Finance, and Data Science.
  • Structuring commercial terms, including pricing, revenue attribution, and partner/startup program terms, in collaboration with Finance, Legal, and Business Development.
  • Engaging with all ecosystem participants, including enterprise buyers, startup builders, partners (resellers/embedders), and industry customers, to develop a roadmap where each new participant enhances platform value for others.
  • Owning team outcome metrics such as the platform's business share outside coding, new startup revenue, unified volume across API and subscriptions, and partner-booked volume on Claude, ensuring appropriate instrumentation for measurement.
  • Writing strategy documents, specifications, and analyses.
