About The Position

turbopuffer is seeking an engineer to lead the team building its user-facing features. The company is investing in customer experience and plans to deliver highly requested features and improvements, including playgrounds, observability, alerting, insights, and billing.

The role leads a currently three-person team and contributes to hiring and growing it. The lead designs and implements end-to-end improvements to the developer experience, spanning the dashboard, documentation, website, SDKs, and core database. The role also helps customers understand, monitor, and optimize their turbopuffer workloads.

Requirements

• Experience in product engineering.
• Experience leading engineering teams through technical leadership and people management.
• Extensive experience with browser technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript) and web applications, including databases and APIs.
• Passion for user experience and ability to think like a product manager.
• Motivation to solve user problems.
• An eye for design.
• Experience maintaining and iterating on web-based products at scale.
• Prior experience with multi-tenant SaaS applications, including billing, authentication, and authorization.
• Strong writing skills and the ability to explain complex ideas simply.
• Ability to build trust and acknowledge what you do not know.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in the React ecosystem, including shadcn/ui, Next.js, Tailwind, or Vercel, and/or backend frameworks such as Rails, Phoenix, or Django.
• Interest in vector and full-text search and experience interacting with tools in this area.
• Prior experience with Rust.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement end-to-end improvements to the developer experience, from the dashboard, documentation, website, and SDKs to the core database.
• Help customers understand, monitor, and optimize their turbopuffer workloads.
• Manage the currently three-person team and support hiring and team growth.
• Write clear, concise documentation.
