Product Engineer - Passport

WorkOS•San Francisco, CA
•$175,000 - $275,000•Remote

About The Position

WorkOS is seeking a frontend-leaning Product Engineer to help shape and build Passport, a product that lets employees access work applications by unlocking their devices while giving administrators control over access. The role combines product judgment and hands-on engineering across the stack, with responsibility for turning complex identity and device workflows into clear employee and administrator experiences. The engineer will work directly with customers and cross-functional teams to decide what to build, deliver features to production, and iterate on them. The work takes place in an AI-native engineering environment, using AI tools to prototype, build, and iterate while maintaining a high bar for product quality and technical correctness.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of industry software development experience, including shipping user-facing products.
  • Strong frontend engineering skills, including accessible interfaces, well-structured application state, fast interactions, and thoughtful loading, empty, error, and recovery states.
  • Full-stack capability, including designing useful APIs, reasoning about data models and queries, implementing authorization behavior, and debugging production issues.
  • Strong product judgment: understand customer needs, identify the right problems, and make thoughtful tradeoffs about priorities, scope, quality, and speed, including knowing what not to build.
  • Strong product taste: shape how a product works, rethink complex workflows, choose sensible defaults, and make the right actions feel obvious.
  • Clear communication and independent judgment through ambiguity, curiosity to learn unfamiliar systems, and ability to collaborate across disciplines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with identity, authentication, authorization, or enterprise integrations, including SAML, OIDC, or SCIM.
  • Experience building desktop applications or device-management workflows.
  • Experience in B2B SaaS, developer tools, or employee and administrator products, especially building an early-stage product with its first customers.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with customers, solutions engineering, and go-to-market teammates to understand identity and device setups, identify friction, and prioritize focused improvements.
  • Build onboarding and access-management experiences for employees and administrators.
  • Own features from implementation through release and iteration, balancing maintainability with momentum.
  • Collaborate with designers, backend engineers, and security engineers to make complex access workflows simple and secure.
  • Help shape how AI agents access company tools, working with adjacent product teams to make connections and configuration understandable.

Benefits

  • Healthcare coverage for the employee and family, including medical, dental, and vision.
  • Parental leave.
  • Paid time off.
  • Fully remote working arrangements.
  • 401(k) matching.

  • Monthly fitness stipend for gyms, yoga classes, race registrations, or other activities.
