Product Engineer - Passport

WorkOS•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

WorkOS is hiring a frontend-leaning Product Engineer to help shape and build Passport, a product that lets employees access work apps with fewer sign-in prompts while giving administrators control over access. The engineer will help decide what to build and take work through production, working directly with customers to turn complex identity and device workflows into clear employee and administrator experiences. The role involves hands-on engineering across the stack in an AI-native environment, using AI tools to prototype, build, and iterate while maintaining product quality and technical correctness. WorkOS builds developer tools and APIs for enterprise authentication, identity, authorization, and related infrastructure. Its platform serves modern software companies, including AI companies, and it is developing capabilities for human and agent authentication, identity, and access control.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of industry software development experience, including shipping user-facing products.
  • Strong frontend engineering skills, including accessible interfaces, well-structured application state, fast interactions, and thoughtful loading, empty, error, and recovery states.
  • Full-stack capability, including designing useful APIs, reasoning about data models and queries, implementing authorization behavior, and debugging production issues.
  • Ability to own work across layers and collaborate with specialists; deepest expertise may be frontend.
  • Strong product sense and judgment to understand customer needs, identify problems, and make thoughtful tradeoffs about priorities, scope, quality, and speed, including knowing what not to build.
  • Strong product taste, including the ability to rethink complex workflows, choose sensible defaults, and make the right actions feel obvious.
  • Clear communication, independent judgment through ambiguity, curiosity to learn unfamiliar systems, and ability to collaborate across disciplines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with identity, authentication, authorization, or enterprise integrations, including SAML, OIDC, or SCIM.
  • Experience building desktop applications or device-management workflows.
  • Experience in B2B SaaS, developer tools, or employee and administrator products, especially building an early-stage product with its first customers.

Responsibilities

  • Work with customers, solutions engineering, and go-to-market teammates to understand identity and device setups, identify friction, and prioritize improvements.
  • Build onboarding and access-management experiences for employees and administrators.
  • Own features from implementation through release and iteration, making pragmatic tradeoffs between maintainability and momentum.
  • Collaborate with designers, backend engineers, and security engineers to make access workflows simple and secure.
  • Help shape how AI agents access company tools, working with adjacent product teams to make connections and configuration understandable.
