About The Position

Nuance Labs is hiring a hands-on individual contributor to own product engineering across its real-time AI avatar experience, developer platform, and internal research tooling. The role spans work from backend systems through user interfaces, and may shift between launch-focused product features and research tools supporting upcoming studies. Engineers are expected to identify what needs to be done, align with affected partners, and deliver with limited top-down direction. The position includes building end-to-end product features; designing responsive and fair experiences under high demand; developing APIs, SDKs, and documentation for external developers; improving research tooling with researchers; gathering user feedback; testing and rolling out avatar versions; and collaborating with cross-functional partners, including legal, on privacy-conscious user flows. Nuance Labs describes its work as building photorealistic, real-time AI avatars with emotional intelligence and full-duplex audiovisual capabilities. The role is in person in Seattle five days a week. Base salary is $250,000–$300,000, plus meaningful equity. The company offers visa sponsorship from day one.

  • Product judgment, including care for user experience and the ability to distinguish where polish matters from where a quick version is sufficient.

  • Self-drive and ability to identify and complete work without daily direction.
  • Range and adaptability across product, platform, and research tooling.
  • Startup instincts and comfort owning outcomes in a small, fast-moving team.

  • Maintain and improve internal research tooling, partnering with researchers to design and build features for their studies.
  • Build ways for users to share feedback that can improve the product and models.
  • Ensure new avatar versions are tested before reaching users, roll out smoothly, and scale with demand.
  • Work with cross-functional partners, including legal, on privacy-conscious user flows.
