Nuance Labs•Seattle, WA
•$250,000 - $300,000•Onsite

About The Position

Nuance Labs is seeking a Product Engineer to own the product surface around its real-time AI avatar, from user-facing features and the developer platform to internal research tools. The role spans backend systems, UI, the full conversation experience, APIs, SDKs, documentation, research tooling, feedback mechanisms, and testing and deployment of new avatar versions. The engineer will also work with cross-functional partners, including legal, on privacy-conscious user flows. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role with little top-down direction. The Product Engineer is expected to identify what needs to be done, align with affected colleagues, and follow through. Work may shift between launch features and tools developed alongside researchers. The position is in person in Seattle five days a week.

Requirements

  • A track record of shipping product features end to end, including the ability to explain what was built, tradeoffs made, and outcomes after launch.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals in one or more programming languages.
  • Proficient everyday use of agentic AI tools and sound judgment in checking their work.
  • Product judgment, including attention to user experience and the ability to decide when polish matters versus when a quick version is appropriate.
  • Comfort with production systems, including load, rollouts, monitoring, and responding to problems.
  • Self-direction: ability to identify and complete work from a problem statement without daily direction.
  • Range and adaptability across product, platform, and research tooling.
  • Ability to thrive in a small, fast-moving startup team and take ownership of outcomes.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with audio/video capture or real-time media.
  • Mobile and/or desktop app development experience.
  • Experience building developer-facing products such as APIs, SDKs, or documentation.
  • Experience building tools for researchers or working closely with ML teams.

Responsibilities

  • Build product features end to end, from backend systems through the UI, across the full conversation experience.
  • Design experiences that remain fair and responsive when demand exceeds capacity, and ensure they perform under heavy load.
  • Build and grow the developer platform, including APIs, SDKs, and documentation.
  • Maintain and improve internal research tooling, partnering with researchers to design and build features that support their studies.
  • Build ways for users to share feedback that can improve the product and models.
  • Ensure new avatar versions are tested before reaching users, rolled out smoothly, and able to scale with demand.
  • Work with cross-functional partners, including legal, on privacy-conscious user flows.

Benefits

  • Meaningful equity.
  • A variety of health plans, including an HDHP with approximately $2,000 in annual company HSA contributions.
  • $2,000 per year for wellness expenses such as gym memberships, fitness equipment, training/coaching, and classes.
  • One-time $500 work setup allowance for technology or accessories.
  • 15 days of PTO, 10 public holidays, and a full week of office closure at year-end.
  • Lunch, drinks, and snacks provided on workdays.
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits of up to $340 per month for parking and transportation.
  • 401(k) with a 4% match (100% of the first 3% contributed and 50% of the next 2%).
  • Visa sponsorship, including O-1, H-1B, and green card sponsorship, from day one.
  • Unlimited tokens for AI-native tooling.
