Product Designer, Core Experience

Figma•San Francisco, CA
•$169,000 - $303,000

About The Position

Figma is seeking a technically minded Product Designer for its Core Experience team. The team shapes how people create in Figma, including foundational tools such as Auto Layout and Text and the canvas interactions that make the editor intuitive and precise. The designer will lead major efforts across the core editor and help define its evolution as AI and code change how people build products. The role combines strong interaction design craft, systems thinking, prototyping, and collaboration with engineering, product, research, and design partners to turn ambitious ideas into high-quality experiences used every day. This is a full-time position available from a Figma U.S. hub or remotely in the United States. The role involves setting direction while remaining hands-on, and contributing to the design organization through critique, mentoring, and sharing best practices.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of product design experience, including leading complex software projects from early exploration through launch and iteration.
  • A portfolio of shipped work demonstrating interaction design and visual craft, including examples of making sophisticated workflows easier to understand and use.
  • Ability to guide decisions with structured thinking, clearly articulated rationale, and user-centered research.
  • Ability to resolve ambiguous problems in complex systems and shape them into simple solutions with clear goals.
  • Experience researching, prototyping, or building products with AI and other emerging tools to uncover new patterns for creativity and collaboration.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing creative tools, editors, canvas interfaces, or other products with rich direct-manipulation interactions.
  • A design/development hybrid background, or experience building websites or apps.
  • A history of working on canvas-based interfaces or tools that support creative workflows.
  • Experience with code-based prototyping, front-end development, or workflows that connect design and implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design of core editor experiences, including Auto Layout, Text, and canvas interactions, from opportunity identification through prototyping, launch, and iteration.
  • Define and champion a vision for the editor's evolution, translating it into proposals, design principles, and priorities with product and engineering partners.
  • Explore how direct manipulation, AI, and code can work together, prototyping ways for people to generate, edit, and refine work while retaining creative control.
  • Use user research, product data, and observation of how people create to test assumptions and refine design direction.
  • Participate in design critiques, mentor peers, and share best practices across teams.
