Product Designer

120Water• US,

About The Position

120Water is a mission-driven SaaS company whose platform helps government agencies and utilities manage water data, compliance, sampling, community communication, and public transparency. The Product Designer joins the Product team and owns the end-to-end design of specific product modules, from research and problem framing through flows, interaction details, visual polish, engineering handoff, release review, and follow-up fixes. The designer partners with a product manager and engineering pod for each module and helps steward UX practices and the company’s internal UI language. This is a mid-level role reporting to the Senior Product Designer. The role is suited to someone who has shipped software to real users and can independently run a design track, while benefiting from guidance from product leadership and regular design critique. The designer conducts user research, creates build-ready flows and prototypes, writes interface copy, reviews engineering work before release, and presents design decisions and tradeoffs in critique and product reviews.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years designing shipped B2B or enterprise software, including at least one or two major features that can be discussed from research through release and lessons learned.
  • Fluency in Figma, including components, variants, auto layout, and prototypes; willingness to expand fluency to the MCP server and its potential role in growing a component library.
  • Experience working within an established design system and extending it thoughtfully.
  • Hands-on user research experience, such as conducting interviews or usability sessions and changing designs based on findings.
  • Comfort designing dense, data-heavy interfaces, including tables, filters, maps, complex forms, and workflows spanning multiple days.
  • Clear writing skills for microcopy, design rationales, and actionable engineering handoff notes.
  • Ability to work effectively with engineers and sufficient understanding of front-end development to design buildable solutions and ask questions when needed.
  • Good scope judgment, including prioritizing user needs that should be addressed now over larger redesigns that can wait.
  • Ability to independently run a design track and manage design work without screen-by-screen supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing for regulated industries, utilities, GIS, field operations, or people working outdoors on phones while wearing gloves.
  • Experience using Pendo or similar analytics and session replay tools to identify problems.
  • Experience rolling out a new design language across an existing product, including managing a transition period with old and new screens.
  • Experience designing mapping or spatial interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design of one or two modules at a time, from initial problem framing through shipped screens and follow-up fixes.
  • Talk to users by joining customer calls, conducting short interviews, and reviewing Pendo session replays; use findings to make concrete design changes.
  • Build flows and prototypes in Figma and with AI tools so engineers can implement them without guessing, including empty, error, and loading states.
  • Draft interface copy, including labels, empty states, confirmation dialogs, and error messages.
  • Review engineering work before release and identify design deviations, distinguishing release blockers from issues that can be addressed later.
  • Present work in design critique and product reviews, explain tradeoffs, and receive feedback constructively.
  • Steward UX practices and the internal UI language.
