Product Data Management Engineer (Mid-Level or Senior)
About The Position
Boeing Commercial Airplanes is seeking a Product Data Management Engineer to join the 787 Engineering organization’s Airplane Level Integration Team within Engineering Operations in North Charleston, South Carolina. This role serves as a technical integrator, leading management and integration of engineering architecture—including processes, systems, and data—and their relationships across the airplane product lifecycle. The work emphasizes consistency, traceability, and appropriate access to engineering data. The engineer provides technical leadership in configuration and data management, leads design reviews and audits, evaluates complex product trades and changes, and implements engineering processes, systems, tools, root-cause corrective action, and LEAN principles. The role also includes mentoring and coaching teammates, developing positive working relationships, promoting inclusion, and supporting a culture of engineering excellence and safety. Candidates work with minimal direction as primary technical integrators for assigned airplane-level integrations and change activities. A design or manufacturing engineering background and experience on the 787 or a comparable commercial airplane program are particularly relevant. The position requires a U.S. Person for export-control compliance. It is not safety sensitive, does not require security clearance, and the employer will not sponsor employment visas. Relocation is offered based on candidate eligibility. The position is not contingent upon a program award.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or a directly related non-U.S. equivalent qualification.
- At least 5 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in Configuration Management and Data Management for complex, highly integrated products.
- Experience developing and conducting technical design reviews, audits, and compliance verification across multidisciplinary systems.
- Successful completion of the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.
- Must meet U.S. export-control compliance requirements as a U.S. Person.

Nice To Haves
- For Level 4, at least 9 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
- Master’s degree or advanced coursework in relevant engineering or systems engineering fields.
- Hands-on design or manufacturing engineering experience on commercial airplane programs; direct 787 program experience is strongly preferred.
- Ability to analyze complex trades and changes and produce actionable change proposals with risk and impact assessments.
- Familiarity with product lifecycle processes and tools, including PLM, PDM, and engineering data systems, and their integration with CM processes.
- Prior experience as a technical integrator, configuration manager, or systems engineer on commercial transport aircraft; 787 experience preferred.
- Experience with PLM/PDM or CM tools such as Enovia, Teamcenter, Windchill, IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management (DOORS), or similar tools.
- Knowledge of aerospace change processes, enterprise gated development, readiness levels, and regulatory compliance requirements; Non Recurring Product Definition (NRPD) experience preferred.
- Familiarity with software configuration and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) concepts and tools.
- Experience integrating CM/DM practices with Agile practices and tools such as Jira and Confluence across engineering organizations.
- Certification in configuration management, systems engineering, or a related discipline, such as CISCM, INCOSE, or PMI-ACP.
Responsibilities
- Lead management and integration of engineering architecture, including processes, systems, and data, across the product lifecycle to ensure consistency, traceability, and role-appropriate data access.
- Develop, analyze, manage, and verify compliance of process and product baselines for highly integrated, complex airplane products.
- Define, plan, coordinate, and conduct product- and subsystem-level technical design reviews and audits for new and derivative products.
- Lead evaluation of complex product trades and changes; develop change proposals covering impacts, risks, mitigations, and implementation plans.
- Lead the definition and rollout of Configuration Management (CM) and Data Management (DM) standards, processes, systems, and tools, and drive adoption across IPTs and supporting functions.
- Define and allocate CM/DM requirements for hardware, software, and engineering design data systems across multiple engineering functions.
- Assure integration of product elements and analyze and resolve complex product-structure and cross-discipline interface issues.
- Develop, integrate, and implement engineering technical program plans, including schedule impacts, risk assessments, and incorporation of lessons learned.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineering teams on CM/DM practices, tools, and lifecycle processes.
- Work with minimal direction as a primary technical integrator for assigned airplane-level integrations and change activities.
