About The Position

Applied Intuition is seeking a Product Counsel Lead to join their legal team. This is a strategic role with both internal and external responsibilities, supporting Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams. The role involves providing legal guidance on integrations, privacy, copyright, accessibility, and emerging technologies. The ideal candidate is a business-minded lawyer with a passion for technology, focused on execution, and comfortable making decisions in ambiguous situations at the intersection of law and new technologies. This role offers opportunities to expand responsibilities within a small, high-growth legal team.

Requirements

  • Experience working with internal engineering, product, design, security, privacy, and marketing teams throughout the product development life cycle, advising on regulatory requirements and risk mitigation for new technologies.
  • Experience counseling business partners on domestic and international laws, regulations, and best practices for implementation and ongoing compliance.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, execution-focused environment, requiring exceptional organizational skills, priority juggling, and adherence to strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to advance large, complex projects.
  • 8+ years of law firm and/or in-house experience, preferably in technology companies, with the activities described above.
  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school and active membership in one state bar.

  • Computer science or engineering degree, or a passion for technologies.
  • Familiarity with machine learning, autonomy, generative models, and products.
  • Privacy certifications (CIPP-E, CIPP-US, CIPM), or a desire to obtain one.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Product, Engineering, Design, and Business Teams, navigating issues related to Autonomy and AI, including privacy, data protection, accessibility, and consumer protections.
  • Lead and support cross-functional projects focused on compliance, safety, and IP protection, ensuring legal requirements are integrated into product development.
  • Review product integrations for compliance with contractual obligations, data protection laws, intellectual property rights, and other relevant legal/regulatory requirements.
  • Translate legal advice into actionable guidance for product and engineering teams, often under tight deadlines.
  • Manage the patenting program, facilitate invention harvesting, and advise on IP strategy.
  • Develop systems, policies, and processes, including guides and playbooks, to manage risk and ensure compliance while supporting innovation.
  • Review and edit customer contracts, in-bound contracts, marketing materials, and other external-facing documents for compliance and alignment with company policies.
  • Proactively manage other duties as part of a small legal team in a high-growth startup.
  • Collaborate with external parties, regulators, and industry groups to stay current on global legal and regulatory developments relevant to Autonomy and AI.
  • Assist with M&A transactions.
