About The Position

Meta seeks an attorney with deep experience in online intellectual property, artificial intelligence, and intermediary liability to serve as Lead Counsel, IP Content & Product. The role addresses cutting-edge IP issues globally across Meta’s family of apps, products, and services, including AI, Reality Labs, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, and Messenger. The attorney will work on novel matters at the intersection of law and technology, including product expansion, development of AI products, and new content and intermediary liability laws around the world. The role involves close collaboration with legal colleagues and product, engineering, operations, policy, and other business teams, as part of a creative and collaborative legal team.

Requirements

J.D. degree and membership in good standing in at least one state bar.
At least 5 years of relevant legal experience, either in-house or at a law firm.
Subject matter expertise in IP and related areas, including copyright and fair use, trademark, rights of publicity, and intellectual property licensing.
Subject matter expertise in global intermediary liability issues and laws, including the DMCA, CDA, EU Copyright Directive, and DSA.
Experience with the evolving global IP regulatory landscape, including legal developments involving AI, direct and secondary liability, and other new IP laws.
Experience counseling on IP issues relating to new technologies.
Ability to assess legal, practical, and business risks and provide clear, actionable guidance to stakeholders.
Ability to operate proactively, collaborate, and build cross-functional relationships with legal and business partners.

Nice To Haves

Experience advising on IP issues in the technology or social media industry.
Experience managing relationships with outside counsel across multiple jurisdictions.
Familiarity with Meta’s products and services, including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Reality Labs.
Experience working with cross-functional teams to deliver legal guidance on time-sensitive product launches.
Ability to integrate AI tools to optimize or redesign workflows and drive measurable impact, such as efficiency gains or quality improvements.
Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices, such as risk assessment, bias mitigation, and quality and accuracy reviews.
Ongoing AI skill development, such as prompt/context engineering or agent orchestration, and staying current with emerging AI technologies.

Responsibilities

Evaluate company products and features and provide practical, business-focused advice to manage global IP legal risks.
Support development and expansion of AI products and the Metaverse, and lead IP legal issues across Reality Labs, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, and Messenger.
Advise on direct and intermediary liability issues arising from copyright, trademark, news, right of publicity, and other content-related laws, including the DMCA, CDA, EU Copyright Directive, and DSA.
Advise on legislative and regulatory proposals concerning AI-generated content, digital replicas, AI training, news content, and related matters.
Collaborate with product, engineering, policy, operations, business teams, and legal colleagues.
Work with a global network of outside counsel advising on IP issues.
