About the position
As a Privacy & Product Counsel at Amplitude, you will be a key member of the legal team, responsible for driving the company's privacy program and supporting product development. Your role will involve maintaining expertise in global privacy laws, advising teams on regulatory requirements, and partnering with various departments to ensure compliance. Additionally, you will draft and negotiate agreements related to data privacy and contribute to the continuous improvement of privacy agreements and legal operations. This position requires 5+ years of privacy/product counsel experience, CIPP certification, and strong knowledge of global privacy laws.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and maintaining Amplitude's global privacy program, policies, procedures, and training materials
- Maintain subject matter expertise on domestic and international privacy laws, including GDPR and US State privacy laws, and advise teams on global privacy laws and regulatory requirements
- Partner with product, engineering, design, and marketing teams to support them throughout the product development life cycle
- Provide legal advice and guidance on marketing campaigns and collateral to ensure compliance with relevant laws
- Partner with Information Security team to implement best practices for management and protection of confidential and personal information
- Draft, review, and negotiate various agreements related to data privacy, including vendor agreements, customer agreements, DPAs, and BAAs
- Assist with the continuous improvement of standard privacy agreements and scale legal operations and processes
- Support the general needs of a growing legal team and business
- Have 5+ years of privacy/product counsel experience, with a mix of in-house and law firm experience
- Hold CIPP/US, CIPP/E certification
- Have a JD and active membership in at least one state bar
- Have experience with privacy and data protection issues, including knowledge of global privacy laws such as CCPA and GDPR
- Have broad experience with product counseling, unrelated to privacy and data protection issues
- Be a self-starter who can handle a fast-paced and informal start-up environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Be a collaborative team player with no ego, combined with the ability to work independently
- Be a great communicator who can talk and write like a human, not a lawyer
- Preferred but not required: experience working at a B2B SaaS company
Requirements
- 5+ years of privacy/product counsel experience, with a mix of in-house and law firm experience
- CIPP/US, CIPP/E certification
- JD and active membership in at least one state bar
- Experience with privacy and data protection issues, including strong knowledge of global privacy laws such as GDPR and CCPA
- Broad experience with product counseling, including unrelated to privacy and data protection issues
- Self-starter who can handle a fast-paced and informal start-up environment, managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Collaborative team player with no ego, able to work independently
- Excellent communication skills, able to talk and write like a human, not a lawyer
- Experience working at a B2B SaaS company preferred but not required
