About The Position

CBC Nunavut in Iqaluit delivers news and current affairs through our digital, radio and television platforms in both Inuktitut and English. Working with CBC Nunavut, you play a leadership role in our radio, television and mobile services in Nunavut and Nunavik, with emphasis on our Inuktitut programming. You work with a team, directing and assigning staff as required to support our News and Current Affairs programming. The successful candidate will report for all editorial platforms as needed. Work must adhere to CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic and/or program policies, standards and practices, and you must lead your team to ensure that this occurs.

Requirements

  • Excellent skills in Inuktitut; good ability to work in English.
  • High school education or an equivalent combination of education, work and experience.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and present information clearly.
  • Interest and knowledge of: The social, political and cultural life of Nunavut, the North and Canada.
  • Inuit culture, values, language and history, current events and happenings in the communities.
  • Broadcasting, social media, digital communications.
  • Interest in new tools and technology (example: radio, audio, video, social media).
  • Working in teams, mentoring and inspiring others.
  • Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
  • A mandatory Criminal record check.
  • Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous supervisory experience would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Keeper of the vision for the morning show.
  • Works closely with the Senior Producer.
  • Oversees story selection, production, line-up, vets scripts for interviews, music selection.
  • Works with staff in the location and elsewhere in the north on development and preparation of stories for the show.
  • Books, records, and edits interviews; writes/vets intros and other material for the program.
  • Ensures preparation of lineup and filing of daily program logs.
  • Provides feedback to program hosts.
  • Identifies possible video, web, social media treatments for morning show stories.
  • Pitching story ideas, researching, writing and presenting news stories for broadcast on local and national programs.
