About The Position

The Produce Overnight Clerk helps create an outstanding customer experience by providing exceptional service and maintaining a safe, clean environment. The role assists the department manager in meeting sales and profit goals and monitoring quality assurance standards. The clerk embraces the Customer 1st strategy and the company’s values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The position involves preparing, packaging, labeling, stocking, and inventorying produce merchandise; checking products for quality and freshness; helping prepare produce platters and trays; and keeping current with specials and advertisements. The clerk also supports customers with product questions and recommendations, maintains required case and cooler temperatures and logs, follows safety procedures, inspects equipment, and reports issues to management. The role requires cooperation in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment and must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.
Current food handlers permit once employed.

Responsibilities

Maintain knowledge of department products, answer questions, and make product suggestions.
Assist with preparing produce platters and trays.
Inform customers of produce specials and recommend items to meet their needs.
Prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise.
Inspect products for quality and freshness and take appropriate action when needed.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Maintain a positive attitude and stay current on present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of repair needs.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Report safety risks or issues and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud, to store management.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
Manage conflict reasonably, cooperatively, and without confrontation.
Handle customer and business information honestly and with integrity.
Follow directions and seek assistance as needed to resolve customer and business issues.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
