About The Position

The Produce Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in meeting sales and profit goals and monitoring quality assurance standards. The position involves assisting customers with produce and other store products, preparing and handling merchandise, maintaining product quality and freshness, and keeping department displays, equipment, and temperature records in order. The clerk also supports safety procedures and reports risks, incidents, discrepancies, and issues to management.

Requirements

Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.
Current food handlers permit once employed.

Responsibilities

Create a welcoming environment by answering customer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain knowledge of department products, answer questions, and make suggestions.
Assist with preparing produce platters and trays.
Inform customers of produce specials and recommend items to meet their needs.
Prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise.
Inspect products for quality and freshness and take appropriate action when needed.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering and shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Maintain a positive attitude and stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and keep temperature logs.
Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and report repair needs to the appropriate manager.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud, to store management.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
Manage conflict reasonably, cooperatively, and without confrontation.
Handle customer and business information honestly and with integrity.
Follow directions and seek assistance when needed to resolve customer and business issues.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
