About The Position

The Produce Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals and monitors established quality assurance standards. The position involves assisting customers with produce products and specials, preparing and maintaining merchandise, monitoring product quality and freshness, and supporting department safety and operational standards. The clerk also works cooperatively in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment and provides assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults. Essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.
Obtain a current food handlers permit once employed.

Comparable retail experience.

Responsibilities

Help customers feel welcome, important, and appreciated by answering questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Gain and maintain knowledge of department products to answer questions and make product suggestions.
Assist with preparing produce platters and trays.
Inform customers of produce specials.
Recommend items to customers so they can obtain the products they want and need.
Prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise adequately.
Review and inspect products for quality and freshness, and take appropriate action on items.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Display a positive attitude.
Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
Reinforce safety programs by following safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and notifying store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Report safety risks or issues and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud, to store management.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
Act honestly and with integrity regarding customer and business information.
Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults.
