About The Position

Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals established for the department, and monitor established quality assurance standards. The Produce/Clerk supports customers and department operations by providing product information and recommendations, preparing produce platters, maintaining merchandise quality and freshness, and ensuring produce is properly packaged, labeled, stocked, and inventoried. The role also supports safety, equipment maintenance, and store procedures, and provides assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults. Essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.
Current food handlers permit once employed.

Responsibilities

Gain and maintain knowledge of department products; answer questions and make product suggestions.
Assist with preparing produce platters and trays.
Inform customers of produce specials.
Recommend items to customers to help them get the products they want and need.
Prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise adequately.
Review and inspect products for quality and freshness, and take appropriate action when needed.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Display a positive attitude.
Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
Reinforce safety programs by following safety procedures, identifying unsafe conditions, and notifying store management.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Report safety risks or issues and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud, to store management.
Work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
Act honestly and with integrity regarding customer and business information.
Follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
