About The Position

The Produce Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in achieving sales and profit goals and monitors established quality assurance standards. The clerk embraces the Customer 1st strategy, encourages excellent service, and demonstrates the company’s values of respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. The position involves assisting customers with produce questions and recommendations, preparing produce platters and trays, and preparing, packaging, labeling, stocking, and inventorying merchandise. The clerk checks product quality and freshness, monitors case and cooler temperatures, maintains temperature logs, and reports ordering or shipping discrepancies. The role also supports workplace safety, equipment maintenance, and a cooperative, welcoming store environment.

Requirements

Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.
Current food handlers permit once employed.

Nice To Haves

Comparable retail experience.
Second language skills (speaking, reading, and/or writing).

Responsibilities

Maintain product knowledge and respond to questions or make product suggestions.
Assist with preparing produce platters and trays.
Inform customers about produce specials and recommend items to help them get the products they want and need.
Prepare, package, label, and inventory merchandise adequately.
Inspect products for quality and freshness and take appropriate action when needed.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering or shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Maintain a positive attitude and stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
Comply with safety procedures, reinforce safety programs, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment as part of preventive maintenance and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Report safety risks or issues and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud, to store management.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment and manage conflict reasonably and cooperatively.
Handle customer and business information honestly and with integrity.
Follow directions and seek assistance when needed to resolve customer and business issues.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults.
Perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
