About The Position

The Processing Assistant performs a variety of clerical and/or technical duties related to the selection, purchasing, invoicing, processing, and management of library materials in all formats, to meet community needs by ensuring library collections remain current and relevant.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
  • Six (6) or more months of related experience.
  • Ability to work day, evening, and weekends hours.
  • Working knowledge of library practices, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to safely use sharp tools.
  • Ability to learn to maintain and organize library materials.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to learn to operate relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, and office machines.
  • Ability to be adaptable, flexible and patient with customers and staff.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Reconciles the receiving, payment, processing, and maintenance of the library’s material purchases.
  • Provides customer service to internal and external customers in relation to materials projects.
  • Processes all library materials including barcodes, RFID, spine labels, cases, covers, etc.
  • Converts library materials in the ILS acquisitions module and sends to vendors.
  • Invoices library materials in library’s integrated library system and codes invoices for finance.
  • Provides basic circulation duties to Administration including checking materials in and out, registering library cards, etc.
  • Creates and maintains databases and spreadsheets for tracking funds, orders, credits, problems, etc.
  • Provides clerical support to Materials Management & Technical Services staff.
  • Serves on committees and participates in workshops, seminars, and training as requested.
  • Notifies Supervisor with suggested ways to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of personnel and procedures and system-wide goals and objectives.
  • Learns new skills and technologies to retain proficiency in areas of expertise.
  • Is dependable and punctual.
  • Maintains a positive, friendly, and cooperative attitude and provides consistent customer service.
  • Upholds all library policies and procedures as defined in Harford County Public Library’s Policies and Procedures Manual.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
