Process & Capability Improvement Analyst

Sprouts Farmers MarketPhoenix, AZ

About The Position

This role exists to build and improve the processes of the Merchandising organization — translating strategy into repeatable process, clear decision rights, and field-ready training. You will work horizontally across Merchandising, Merch Planning, Pricing, Space Planning, Supply Chain, and Operations — not owning any single domain but improving how all of them connect and integrate. You will document what exists, improve what is broken, and build the templates, guides, and accountability frameworks that help Merchandising teams work faster, cleaner, and with less ambiguity. The right candidate thrives in building infrastructure across a complex organization and has the influence skills to drive adoption through teams they do not directly manage. This role is designed to grow — from process execution toward capability architecture as the function matures.

Requirements

  • 2–5 years in process improvement, business operations, analytics, or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated experience taking a broken or undocumented process from current state to improved, adopted future state — not just mapping what exists
  • Experience supporting business initiatives, pilots, or cross-functional projects preferred
  • Advanced Excel — required
  • Visio, Lucidchart, or skills with similar process mapping tools are expected
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to identify root cause and separate from symptoms
  • Process-oriented mindset with sharp attention to detail
  • Facilitation skills — able to run working sessions, process workshops, and cross-functional alignment meetings
  • Ability to synthesize complexity into clear, actionable guidance
  • Effective communication across levels, from analyst peers to senior leaders
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously

Nice To Haves

  • Retail or CPG experience is a plus
  • Power BI — preferred; working knowledge acceptable
  • SQL and data fluency — nice to have; comfort reading and working with data is expected and necessary

Responsibilities

  • Map current-state merchandising processes end-to-end, from item setup and test execution to promotional planning and vendor onboarding
  • Identify gaps, handoff failures, and accountability breakdowns; propose and implement improvements with measurable outcomes
  • Build and drive process improvement adoption via documentation including processes maps, workflows that then become playbooks, job aids, decision guides, and scorecards for use at the appropriate user level
  • Partner with leadership to define and maintain decision rights frameworks that specify who owns what decision, under what conditions, with what authority, across Merchandising functions
  • Gather business requirements and translate them into process solutions and accountability frameworks
  • Design and maintain training and communication materials that make new and updated processes stick across the Merchandising organization
  • Support onboarding and process rollout efforts, translating documentation into practical guidance people can use in the field, and iterating based on feedback
  • Support the design, setup and execution of merchandising pilots and test initiatives
  • Track and analyze results against sales, margin, and KPI benchmarks
  • Synthesize findings into clear, actionable recommendations — not just data points
  • Develop and maintain reporting to monitor test performance and business trends across teams
  • Work in a matrix model across Merchandising, Planning, Pricing, Space Planning, Supply Chain, and Operations — aligning process standards without owning those teams' day-to-day work
  • Communicate process changes, insights, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders at multiple levels
  • Influence without authority — the hardest skill in this role is getting teams to change how they work; success depends on clarity, trust, and follow-through, not formal authority
