About The Position

The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is seeking dedicated and empathetic individuals to join their team as Probation and Parole Officer-Juvenile. This role is crucial for protecting the public by providing safe and effective individualized services to youth, aiming to help them become productive, law-abiding citizens. The position involves professional supervision, guidance, and intervention strategies to promote public safety, reduce recidivism, and support the successful rehabilitation of justice-involved youth. The role requires collaboration with judges, law enforcement agencies, and community-based organizations.

Requirements

Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply); OR Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR A Bachelor's degree.
An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
Willingness and ability to complete the Corrections Juvenile Services-Agent Curriculum.
Must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15:587.1 (c).
Must authorize the HR Office of Juvenile Justice to contact prior employers to check references under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) to be considered for employment.
Must take and pass a drug screening test.
Must clear a background check.

Nice To Haves

Experience substitution: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

Coordinate youth services across a multi-parish region for adjudicated and at-risk youth.
Complete risk and SAVRY assessments to determine needs, supervision levels, and intervention strategies.
Maintain contact with youth and families to monitor progress and update service plans.
Serve as secondary case manager for youth in secure care to ensure continuity of services.
Prepare required documentation including ISPs, social histories, investigations, and court-ordered reports.
Coordinate evaluations and placements by scheduling appointments, gathering referral documents, and submitting placement packets.
Prepare FAST forms to determine Medicaid/IV-E eligibility and parental cost-of-care contributions.
Participate in court and staffing processes including case staffings, reviews, and testimony on youth progress.
Monitor programs for compliance, assist with audits, and maintain case records and automated system data.
Provide additional support including mentoring (PPO-3), transporting youth, responding to emergencies, coordinating Interstate Compact cases, and collaborating with social-service agencies.
