This position is responsible for supervising and investigating criminal offenders through the provision of probation, parole and pardon assigned to the district office. Requirements

• Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply); OR Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree.
• Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
• An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
• Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
• This position requires the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.
• Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Responsibilities

• Processes new cases under supervision, including obtaining background social and criminal data, explaining conditions of supervision, fingerprinting clients, and developing comprehensive supervision plans.
• Continues ongoing supervision and counseling, including referrals to other agencies for social and/or health services and for employment; office and field contacts with clients, their families, and employers on a monthly basis; telephone and personal contact with attorneys, judges, and law enforcement personnel about cases under supervision.
• Reports and monitors new arrests and/or technical violators.
• Obtains new police reports and dispositions of charges from the district attorney’s files and clerk of court records.
• Establishes payment plans for collection of restitution payments and supervision fees when ordered by the court.
• Petitions the court for establishment or modification of treatment plans.
• Schedules revocation and preliminary hearings and notifies all parties in cases of violations of probation or parole.
• Testifies at court hearings and makes recommendations regarding client’s status on supervision.
• Records case narratives and correspondence.
• Conducts pre-sentence investigations for the court as a means to determine a person’s suitability for supervision rather than for incarceration. Investigations contact social and criminal background information obtained through local agencies (both juvenile and adult) as well as family and associates, schools, social agencies, and the military records department.
• Conducts personal interviews with the client at the onset of the investigation and takes fingerprints and submits to State Police and FBI to obtain a criminal records history.
• Obtains dispositions of prior arrests often from other cities and other states.
• Determines the client’s suitability as well as eligibility for probation under the State law. A recommendation for supervision may be made as well as specific requirements on an individual if placed on supervision.
• Searches for and often arrests violators and/or absconders and then transports them to parish jail facilities from inter and intra-state pending a trial or revocation hearing.
• Efforts to locate absconders may involve a great deal of work, often during evening or early morning hours.
• The physical danger is always present when working high-crime areas and when attempting to apprehend probation and parole violators.
