Juvenile Parole/Probation Assistant
About The Position
The Oregon Youth Authority (OYA) is seeking a Juvenile Parole and Probation Assistant (JPPA) to join their Marion/Polk Field Office team. This para-professional role provides hands-on support to Juvenile Parole and Probation Officers in guiding youth through community supervision and rehabilitation. Responsibilities include monitoring youth progress, coordinating transportation and community resources, preparing case documentation, and building trusting relationships with youth, families, and community partners. This position is described as an excellent entry point into OYA's Parole and Probation series, offering mentorship from experienced officers and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in Marion and Polk counties.
Requirements
- Eighteen months experience in a social service, rehabilitative, or correctional program with primary responsibility for guiding individuals or groups in the solution of occupational, educational, personal or social problems; OR An Associates Degree in Criminal Science, Criminal Justice, the Behavioral Sciences, Human Services or a related field
- Valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position.
- Verbal de-escalation / crisis intervention skills
- Skill in building positive, collaborative relationships with coworkers, lead workers, and managers
- Self-motivation and ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and perspectives

- Experience working with gang-impacted youth
- General experience transporting or escorting a supervised population

- Experience applying and removing physical restraint techniques

Responsibilities
- Supervise and monitor youths' behavior in the community and in facilities, including securing transport and conducting required searches under an officer's direction.
- Prepare case notes, progress reports, and court- or school-related documentation, and enter information into the Juvenile Justice Information System.
- Interview youth, families, victims, and other parties to gather and verify background information used in case review and recommendations.
- Connect youth to community resources — treatment, education, employment, and housing supports — to help facilitate successful rehabilitation.
- Support Juvenile Parole and Probation Officers with case management backup, case file review, and testimony in court or administrative hearings as needed.
