About The Position

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services Division of Probation & Parole – Adult is seeking a Probation and Parole Officer in the Lake Charles District. This role involves supervising and investigating criminal offenders to promote public safety, accountability, and successful rehabilitation through probation, parole, and pardon services. The department's mission is to enhance public safety through secure incarceration, effective supervision, and rehabilitative strategies for successful reintegration of offenders. Requirements

  • Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply); OR Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
  • Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
  • This position requires the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.
  • Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise felony and misdemeanor offenders through counseling, case management, and referrals to community resources that support rehabilitation and social adjustment.
  • Enforce conditions of probation and parole by monitoring compliance, managing violations, and participating in all stages of the violation process.
  • Conduct criminal justice investigations and prepare reports and recommendations for courts, parole and pardon boards, and other criminal justice decision makers.
  • Conduct arrests, transport violators, and participate in probable cause, revocation, and disciplinary hearings.
  • Investigate and manage restitution, supervision fees, fines, court costs, and other criminal justice-related financial obligations.
  • Coordinate offender placement in drug treatment, vocational rehabilitation, mental health, and other support programs while providing crisis intervention and emergency assistance resources.
  • Administer drug testing, supervise community service activities, and ensure compliance with American Correctional Association (ACA) standards and agency policies.
  • Assist with jail and contract compliance audits for facilities and Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRCs), including applying defensive tactics and maintaining institutional safety and security.
