Probabilistic Risk Analyst

Axiom Space•Houston, CA

About The Position

Axiom Space is seeking a resilient, high-energy Probabilistic Risk Analyst to join its Safety and Mission Assurance engineering team. The role supports crew safety and mission success in a complex human-spaceflight environment by leading reliability engineering and probabilistic risk analysis throughout program lifecycles. The analyst develops reliability strategies and data systems, leads reliability engineers, integrates analyses with engineering and subsystem teams, and presents findings to internal and external stakeholders. The position may involve office work and inside or outside work depending on the task.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline such as aerospace, electrical, mechanical, or a related discipline.
  • 10 or more years of direct experience in spacecraft reliability-focused activities, including statistical process control and modeling or prediction.
  • At least 3–5 years performing Probabilistic Risk Assessments (PRAs).
  • Experience analyzing and processing flight hardware failure data to calculate or refine product reliability metrics and recommend improvement measures.
  • Broad background in space systems engineering, including space vehicle design, space system architecture development, ground systems support, payloads, and space missions and operations development.
  • Detailed knowledge of spaceflight subsystems and functions.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments and exercise sound judgment to solve problems proactively.
  • Organization skills sufficient to meet tight deadlines while producing high-quality results.
  • Ability to collaborate within teams and cross-functionally.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones.
  • Final candidates may be subject to export-control screening; eligibility for access to controlled technical data or technology is a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Relex (Windchill PTC), Saphire, or related reliability toolsets.
  • Experience with reliability predictions for new spacecraft and space vehicle designs and their components and systems.
  • Experience with NASA human spaceflight programs.
  • Preferably, detailed knowledge of human-spaceflight-related subsystems and functions.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement a reliability engineering strategy, including practices, processes, and a reliability growth plan for components and systems.
  • Lead Reliability Engineers in implementing requirements and meeting program deliverable milestones.
  • Plan and lead Reliability team projects and other applicable aspects of the Safety and Mission Assurance program.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and promote a positive safety culture.
  • Lead, develop, and present flight and ground reliability analysis results to meet program goals and objectives.
  • Conduct end-to-end system reliability analyses and produce related products, including MTBF, PRA, FMEA, CIL, and reliability test criteria.
  • Lead Probabilistic Risk Analysis in support of design trades and risk-informed decisions throughout the program lifecycle.
  • Develop and implement accurate reliability data management systems and records.
  • Prepare and present reliability analysis reports and presentations to management and Safety and Mission Assurance teams.
  • Perform performance management functions to develop the reliability team’s skills and advance organizational objectives.
  • Develop expertise to serve as a department Reliability SME, including learning new tasks to deepen knowledge and insight.
  • Collaborate with engineering and subsystem teams to implement integrated reliability analyses.
