The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of Oregon is seeking applicants for an open pool of Pro Tem instructors in English. This role primarily involves teaching undergraduate composition courses to first-year students within the English Department, which serves approximately 7,000 undergraduates annually through its Composition Program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in writing pedagogy, inclusive teaching methods, and a commitment to supporting first-year student success. These are limited duration appointments, potentially renewable for up to three years, contingent on programmatic needs, funding, and performance. Screening of applications will occur as positions become available and continue until filled. Depending on departmental needs, there may be opportunities to teach occasional courses in film and media, lower-division literature (such as Introduction to Drama, Poetry, or Fiction, British or American surveys, and Shakespeare), and folklore. Responsibilities include advising students during office hours and participating in program assessment. Pro Tem Faculty are also expected to attend Composition Conference and Composition Program meetings when their teaching schedules permit.
