About The Position

ROOTS Academy is hiring private music mentors to provide one-on-one lessons, including for piano and voice. Mentors teach students foundational through advanced musical skills while also supporting their personal growth, confidence, creativity, and long-term development. Students range in age from 5 to adult. Lessons take place at ROOTS Academy or other approved locations. Mentors typically work 2–3 days per week, with consistent availability during peak after-school hours required. Participation in team meetings, recitals, and occasional professional development sessions at the Brentwood campus is also expected. Starting pay is $25–$28 per hour, based on experience, instrument, and schedule availability, with opportunities for advancement and additional teaching assignments based on performance and tenure.

Requirements

At least one year of teaching experience on primary instrument(s).
Commitment to teaching with ROOTS for at least one full year.
Successful completion of a criminal background check.
Reliability, strong communication skills, and a passion for mentoring young musicians.
Consistent availability during peak after-school hours.

Nice To Haves

Multi-instrumentalists are preferred, especially piano and voice.
Friday and Saturday availability is preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide weekly one-on-one private lessons in primary instrument(s) at ROOTS Academy or other approved locations.
Teach foundational through advanced musical skills, including technique, music theory, and performance preparation.
Create a safe, encouraging, and inspiring learning environment for students ages 5 to adult.
Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and development.
Participate in bi-monthly team meetings, quarterly recitals, and occasional professional development sessions at the Brentwood campus.
