About The Position

The responsibility of the co-op student/intern is to support the analytical efforts of investment professionals in the Private Equity department to meet our clients’ return and risk objectives. This work term will provide you the opportunity to learn about private equity investing in various industry sectors and geographies, including direct investing in companies and private equity fund investing.

Requirements

  • A fundamental knowledge of finance, business and investment related disciplines
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Exhibit a high level of professionalism and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong relationship-building ability, proactiveness, results oriented, and resourceful
  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy, excellent product quality, and attention to detail
  • Have an interest in investment management, a dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Extensive experience in financial analysis and models in Excel, and PowerPoint decks is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Capital IQ and Bloomberg applications is considered an asset
  • Students in an undergraduate Finance or Economics program
  • Team players who have the drive to continue learning, excel, and grow in a team oriented and dynamic environment
  • Adventurous students curious about what the West Coast has to offer
  • Has a passion for investing and a drive to continually learn about financial markets and the investment process
  • Demonstrates an extremely strong work ethic and displays initiative to strive to deliver value above and beyond the job description
  • Participates in a student investment club or other investment case competitions
  • Outstanding academic track record (A- equivalent cumulative GPA with more consideration given to strong finance/accounting/economics grades)
  • You will need to be legally authorized to work in the country where this job is located. If you currently do not have authorization or if your work permit, study permit, or visa has restrictions or is due to expire during the work term, you may not be eligible for this opportunity.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in investment banking, private equity, equity research, management consulting, corporate development, or accounting is strongly preferred
  • Preference for students who have shown initiative and a passion for the investment industry

Responsibilities

  • Conduct due diligence for new investment opportunities
  • Assist with the preparation of investment memoranda
  • Review, summarize, and analyze quarterly information for existing portfolio investments
  • Analyze investment performance on an individual and aggregate investment basis
  • Conduct sector research
  • Assist with enhancing current operational procedures within the Private Equity team
