About The Position

The Innovation, Privacy and Stewardship (IPS) Division is accountable for the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy; the protection of personal information and guidance around the ethical use of data; and the governance of Alberta Innovates and the Alberta Enterprise Corporation. The division also advances the strategies and policies related to the delivery of data, content management, technology, and privacy related programs and services. Within the IPS Division, the Privacy, Policy and Governance (PPG) Branch leads the enhancement and development of enterprise technology, content and privacy management legislation, policy, and strategic initiatives. The branch is also accountable for all department legislation and policy and delivery of privacy services and support for government. The PPG branch is looking for a Privacy Analyst. Reporting to the Manager, Privacy Service, this position supports Senior Privacy Advisors and Privacy Services in compliance with the legislated requirements of the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of research principles and techniques to analyze routine requests.
  • Ability to research and reference legislation and policy, procedures, regulations.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are required for all aspects of the position (clear, concise, informative, and logical communication) to interact with people within or outside of the client Ministry.
  • Organizational and time management skills are required.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to review large volumes of records paying attention to detail.
  • Analytical skills.
  • A two-year diploma in a related field (e.g., Policy, Access to Information, Privacy, Communications, Business, Information Management).
  • Minimum two (2) years of progressively related experience.
  • A cover letter clearly demonstrating relevant skills and competencies tailored to this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of the POPA and Regulations and various other legislation(s) as it relates to collection, use, and disclosure of personal information.
  • Working knowledge of records management process for the GoA.
  • Related certification/designation in Canadian Institute of Access and Privacy Professionals (CIAPP), Certified Records Manager (CRM), etc.

Responsibilities

  • Support privacy compliance activities under POPA by assisting with the preparation of routine privacy files and documentation.
  • Respond to basic privacy inquiries and complaints and support investigation processes as required.
  • Provide guidance and information to client ministries on Personal Information Banks and Schedule 1 Public Body requirements.
  • Assist senior team members with privacy breach investigations, risk assessments, and complex privacy-related inquiries.
  • Prepare research, summaries, and reporting materials while ensuring records meet organizational information management standards.
