About The Position

The California Montessori Project (CMP) is a network of public charter schools in the Sacramento area offering a TK-8 Montessori education. CMP serves over 3,000 students across seven campuses and maintains strong relationships with four school districts. CMP supports its teachers in obtaining dual certification (Montessori and California state multiple subject credential). The CMP Leadership Team provides stability and guidance, with a commitment to equity and student success through MTSS and PBIS frameworks. The Principal is a site-based position reporting to the Superintendent/Executive Director, responsible for all site operations and leading the PBIS initiative for campus implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree
  • California Teaching Credential
  • Montessori Certificate from an accredited Montessori Teacher Training Center (candidates may complete this requirement concurrent with employment)
  • Minimum two years elementary and/or middle school education experience
  • Prior administrative experience in the educational field
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Current TB testing
  • Clear Live Scan

Responsibilities

  • Advises the Superintendent/Executive Director on policy needs and makes recommendations.
  • Submits recommendations and materials for Superintendent/Executive Director action.
  • Reports periodically on school operations.
  • Conducts special studies as requested by the Superintendent/Executive Director.
  • Serves as an LEA designee for IEP meetings.
  • Submits staff communications to the Superintendent/Executive Director.
  • Provides oversight of Special Education implementation and management.
  • Coordinates the work of all school educators and volunteer staff.
  • Assigns personnel within the school according to policy.
  • Directs staff employment and assignment, and coordinates staff activities.
  • Selects and recommends qualified candidates for employment to Human Resources.
  • Develops and maintains an effective campus by collaborating with Human Resources on personnel selection, training, motivation, termination, and review.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources regarding employee leave, classification, resignation, promotion, suspension, or dismissal.
  • Leads the PBIS initiative for campus implementation.
  • Annually evaluates each staff member and identifies professional development opportunities.
  • Maintains communication channels and informs staff about relevant laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Enforces compulsory attendance laws and supervises attendance procedures.
  • Coordinates substitute teachers.
  • Observes the instructional program and provides evaluations of school programs and student progress to the Superintendent/Executive Director.
  • Applies knowledge of the Montessori method, materials, and equipment.
  • Ensures the safety of indoor and outdoor equipment and facilities.
  • Reviews and maintains a safe and healthy environment in compliance with regulations.
  • Applies knowledge of California laws and regulations governing school facilities.
  • Studies the curriculum with staff and makes recommendations to the Superintendent regarding courses of study, activities, and schedules.
  • Orients parents/guardians regarding school policies and guidelines.
  • Informs the Superintendent of contemporary educational practices and legislative issues.
  • Recommends student suspension or expulsion under appropriate circumstances.
  • Assigns staff operational procedures for school upkeep.
  • Maintains and updates census, scholastic, business, property, and personnel records.
  • Submits periodic financial and budgetary reports to the Superintendent.
  • Prepares and submits the school's annual budget and revises it as needed.
  • Approves expenditures within approved appropriation limits.
  • Makes recommendations to the Superintendent regarding facilities, equipment, and transportation services.
  • Develops instructions and regulations for the use and care of school property.
  • Becomes CPI certified and responds to CPI calls.
  • Represents and advocates for the School in relationships with government agencies, private agencies, and the school community.
  • Ensures the community is informed about school matters.
  • Participates in community organizations to gain support for school goals.
  • Coordinates parent special activities, including events, fundraising, and conferences.
  • Mails school information to parents and provides facility tours.
  • Hears complaints and resolves controversies between employees, or between employees and students or parents/guardians.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
