About The Position

The Assistant Principal shall be accountable for accomplishing specific assignments as defined by the Principal. This role involves directing disciplinary policies, attendance procedures, and record-keeping activities. The Assistant Principal will also coordinate instructional materials, assist with extra-curricular activities, counsel students, and liaise with community law enforcement and juvenile probation officers. Additionally, the role includes supervising and evaluating personnel, assisting in curriculum planning, supervising custodians, and assuming principal responsibilities in their absence. The Assistant Principal will conduct staff development programs, foster a positive learning environment, assist with standardized testing, conduct inventories, and help maintain the physical plant. They will also assist teachers in interpreting policies and programs, and deescalate concerns from students, parents, and staff before they meet with administrators, while adhering to the district's Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree.
  • Currently hold or eligible to obtain a New Mexico Administrative license as required by the State of New Mexico.
  • Five years’ experience in public school administration and supervision and/or teaching.
  • Valid Drivers’ license and Car Insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the disciplinary policies as established by Board of Education policies under supervision of the Principal.
  • Directs attendance procedure and attendance record keeping activities.
  • Coordinates record keeping required by the Superintendent and his staff.
  • Makes required reports.
  • Coordinates activities relating to instructional materials.
  • Assists with extra-curricular activities.
  • Counsels individual students and making referrals for specialized help for students with unique problems.
  • Coordinates with juvenile probation officer, and community law enforcement officers on matters relating to sever delinquency problems.
  • Assists with supervising and evaluating personnel.
  • Use supervision, staff development and performance evaluation to improve the instructional process of the school.
  • Assists in planning curriculum.
  • Supervise custodians.
  • Helps assume responsibilities of the principal in his/her absence.
  • Conducts staff development programs.
  • Develops a positive learning environment.
  • Assist with the standardized testing program in cooperation with the principal.
  • Conducts inventories and surveys as required.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe, clean and well-equipped physical plant.
  • Assists teachers in interpreting rules, policies and programs.
  • Attempt to deescalate students/parents/staff; listening/visiting with them about their concerns prior to them meeting with administrators.
  • Treats people with dignity and respect while adhering to all stipulations in Board Policy 3110 Code of Ethics of the Roswell Independent School District and 3111 Code of Conduct of the Roswell Independent School District.
  • Carries out all other duties as required by the Principal.
