About The Position

The Assistant Principal owns and leads assigned academic and student support initiatives, serving as the primary decision-maker for areas such as SST, 504 plans, Special Education administration, and other school priorities. The Assistant Principal sets direction, makes final determinations, and holds staff accountable for outcomes that improve student achievement and well-being. The Assistant Principal leads a standards-based instructional program focused on accelerating learning and narrowing achievement gaps, providing leadership across curriculum, instruction, assessment, and planning.

Requirements

  • Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential
  • English Learner Authorization (CLAD or equivalent)
  • DOJ/FBI fingerprint clearance
  • Tuberculosis (TB) clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
  • Exemplary instructional and classroom management skills
  • Results-driven educational leader with a commitment to standards-based curriculum and the use of data and assessment to drive instructional decisions
  • Proven ability to proactively lead by example, effectively manage adults, and respond positively to feedback
  • Experience analyzing data and using data to inform decisions and/or instruction
  • Minimum of three years working in urban education with a history of significant gains in scholar performance and/or growth
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze assessment data and use findings to inform instructional planning and targeted intervention

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a lead administrator at one of the school’s sites
  • Observe teachers regularly and provide timely, actionable written and verbal feedback
  • Model rigorous, standards-aligned instructional strategies that align with assessments
  • Support teachers through co-planning, co-teaching, and instructional coaching
  • Designs, facilitates, and leads high-quality professional development aligned to instructional priorities, using student achievement data to strengthen instructional practice, improve teaching effectiveness, and accelerate student learning.
  • Coordinate and oversee the administration of school-wide assessments to ensure fidelity, compliance, and effective use of results.Engages staff in data analysis and results planning
  • Oversee the development and implementation of differentiated lesson plans that address the needs of all student subgroups
  • Identify professional development needs and support the design and implementation of long-range professional learning plans
  • Cluster Lead Development
  • Serve as LEA Representative at IEP meetings, for academic concerns or in absence of Principal
  • Participate in attendance meetings with parents when needed
  • Oversee the school-wide completion of report cards
  • Manage the school-wide usage of the school’s evaluation system
  • Oversee the hiring and on-boarding of school staff
  • Attend and participate in all school related family events
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Model and support implementation of the school’s vision and goals
  • Support the development of the Principal’s school-wide vision and take an active role in investing and mobilizing teachers to achieve the collective goals of the school
  • Own the implementation of select school priorities in support of the school-wide vision
  • With guidance from the Principal, lead the planning and goal setting for the grades/departments and ensure alignment with school-wide vision and goals
  • Monitor progress towards goals
  • Contribute to school-wide planning and prioritize time to accomplish goals
  • Lead in specific aspects of strategic planning for the school, identifying key areas of ownership for themselves and their direct reports.
  • Effectively plan to meet goals by prioritizing tasks, establishing enabling systems, and managing time efficiently, while also coaching others to develop these skills
  • Support the Principal in identifying and developing emerging teacher leaders (Instructional Coaches and/or Cluster Leads) through goal setting, coaching, and providing feedback
  • Oversee the growth and development of assigned school staff members
  • Support the hiring, onboarding, and retention of school staff
  • Collaborate with the Principal to build and sustain a diverse, highly effective staff
  • Identify and develop emerging teacher leaders, including instructional coaches and grade-level leads
  • Manage and/or support school leads in their roles
  • Build and strengthen own and direct reports’ instructional knowledge of academic standards, curriculum, assessment, and effective instructional practices
  • Support teachers in aligning instruction, assessment, and instructional strategies to grade-level standards and student needs
  • Partner with student support teams to ensure all students, including those with exceptionalities, receive appropriate access, supports, and interventions
  • Support and monitor strong data-driven instructional practices to track progress toward classroom, campus, and regional goals
  • Guide teachers in using assessment data to measure mastery and growth and to inform instructional adjustments
  • Lead and support high-quality instructional coaching through regular observations, actionable feedback, and accountability for growth
  • Support and monitor curriculum implementation and content development in collaboration with school leadership
  • Lead or support professional learning experiences that improve instructional quality and student outcomes, and hold staff accountable for implementation
  • Owns a designated content area (e.g., English Language Arts, Guided Reading, Math), setting instructional vision, leading curriculum and assessment implementation, and holding teachers accountable for high-quality instruction and student achievement.
