About The Position

The Primary Function of this role is to use leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student. The position requires an earned Master’s Degree (AA) or higher, a Mississippi Educator License with Administration Endorsement, and a minimum of five (5) years of documented current experience in school administration. The Principal leads the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instruction program, establishes and maintains an effective learning climate, and initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet specific needs of the school. This role involves keeping the Superintendent informed of the school’s activities and problems, making recommendations concerning the school’s administration and instruction, and preparing and submitting budgetary requests while monitoring fund expenditures. The Principal assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all Board policies and regulations, supervises the school’s teaching process, and is responsible for the selection and supervision of all school building personnel. Additionally, the role involves recommending the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory, providing adequate inventories of school property and ensuring its security and accountability, and participating in principal’s meetings and other required meetings. The Principal organizes and supervises an educational environment to advance student achievement for all students, prepares or supervises the preparation of reports and records, and maintains an active relationship with students and parents. This role also involves scheduling classes, maintaining high standards of student conduct, evaluating and counseling staff, conducting staff meetings, and assuming responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant. Cooperation with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation, establishing and maintaining relationships with local community groups, delegating authority, and performing additional duties as assigned are also key functions. The position is for a 230-day term and is subject to performance evaluations based on School Board policies, with salary determined by degree and experience.

Requirements

  • An earned Master’s Degree (AA) or higher.
  • Mississippi Educator License with Administration Endorsement.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the development, determination of appropriateness, and monitoring of the instruction program.

  • Assumes responsibility for his/ her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in affairs of professional organizations, attendance at regional, state, and national meetings, and enrollment in advance courses.
  • Supervises the school’s teaching process.
  • Responsible for the selection and supervision of all school building personnel.
  • Recommends, according to established procedures, the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory.
  • Provides adequate inventories of school property and for the security and accountability for that property.
  • Participates in principal’s meetings and other required meetings.
  • Organizes and supervises an educational environment to advance student achievement for all students.
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration.
  • Keeps supervisor informed of events and activities of an unusual nature as well as routine matters related to the supervisor’s accountability.
  • Maintains active relationship with students and parents.
  • Schedules classes within established guidelines to meet student needs.
  • Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary, according to due process rights of students.
  • Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual and group performances.
  • Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.
  • Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.
  • Cooperates with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs; to interpret Board policies and administrative directives, and to discuss and resolve individual student problems.
  • Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned and directed by the Superintendent or Designee.
