About The Position

The Principal – Victory Learning Center serves as the building leader and a key member of the program leadership team. The Principal provides overall administrative leadership and supervision within their Victory Learning Center site. This position is responsible for leading instructional practices, supporting staff development, addressing student needs, fostering a safe and positive school climate, and ensuring the effective day-to-day operations of the school. Our Victory Learning Center Programs offers specialized educational services for students who are diagnosed with Autism or a Cognitive Disability paired with a mental health diagnosis. There are three separate sites conveniently located in Lackawanna, NY, with a fourth site opening! Our schools service students ages 5-21, who are residentially placed or are referred through their local school district's Committee on Special Education.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of New York State education requirements, special education laws and regulations.
  • Excellent organizational skills in coordinating high volume of placement activities for admission and dismissal of students.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills for interactions with various individuals both internal and external to the program.
  • Must be able to deal tactfully and effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload and deadlines.
  • Significant problem solving and diagnostic skills with the ability to quickly analyze situations and adopt an effective course of action.
  • Ability to handle stressful and sensitive situations in a professional manner.
  • Masters in Special Education School Administration Certificate or Degree
  • 5-7 years of school age teaching.
  • NYS Teaching Certification
  • NYS School Building Leader certification

Nice To Haves

  • Supervisory experience in an Education setting is preferred.
  • NYS School District Administrator certification (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the school operates smoothly and effectively with a strong focus on high-quality instruction, student engagement, and the appropriate integration and use of technology.
  • Provides instructional leadership by leading, monitoring, and supporting ongoing teaching and learning activities for teachers at Victory Learning Center.
  • Fosters a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment that supports student well-being and promotes respect.
  • Directly supervises teachers and teacher assistants, providing ongoing feedback and professional support through classroom observations, evaluations, coaching, and regular supervisory meetings.
  • Supervises the Behavior Support Supervisor and collaborates to ensure appropriate staff assignments to meet student needs and maintain safe, effective classroom environments.
  • Develops and maintains student class lists and oversees student placement decisions, ensuring appropriate instructional and behavioral groupings that support individual student needs and promote balanced classroom environments.
  • Oversees and manages the school’s monthly and annual budget, closely monitoring student census, staffing needs, and expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Develops and manages the building’s master schedule, including student programming and classroom schedules, to ensure efficient use of instructional time.
  • Serves as a liaison between the school and the community, including engaging with parents to address concerns, promote school events, and encourage parent involvement.
  • Organizes, provides, and promotes ongoing professional development and staff training opportunities for all employees assigned to the building.
  • Organizes, provides and promotes staff development for all employees assigned to the building on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensures compliance with all school safety procedures, including the planning and implementation of emergency drills, and collaborates with local authorities when necessary to maintain a safe school environment.
  • Demonstrates functional knowledge of Restorative Practices and utilizes restorative approaches to address conflict, support positive behavior, and manage situations involving students and staff.
  • Performs other duties and assumes other leadership responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
