Principal UX/UI Designer

ImpinjSeattle, WA
$185,000 - $277,600Hybrid

About The Position

Impinj is seeking a Principal UX/UI Designer to set the design direction for our software-based solutions. You will be the founding member of a new design team and will have the opportunity to shape early design practices and standards. You will own the end-to-end experience for our suite of products, define the design system and interaction standards others build against, and partner directly with Product, Engineering, and Innovation leadership to shape the roadmap. This is a hands-on craft role with organization-wide influence and internal thought leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in design, HCI, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 15+ years of professional UX/UI or product design experience, including 3+ years at a Staff, Principal, or equivalent senior IC level
  • Portfolio demonstrating shipped, end-to-end work on complex B2B enterprise products, both browser-based and mobile with clear articulation of problems, processes, and outcomes
  • Practical experience designing products from zero to MVP
  • Expert command of interaction design, information architecture, visual design, and prototyping
  • Demonstrated ownership of a design system at scale, including governance, adoption, and contribution models
  • Fluency in Figma and modern design/prototyping tooling; working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and front-end constraints sufficient to collaborate credibly with engineers
  • Proven track record of influencing product strategy and cross-functional roadmaps without formal authority
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tell a compelling story around design decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end user experience, from problem framing and concept exploration through high-fidelity design and production handoff
  • Set and evolve the design language, component library, and interaction patterns used across the product portfolio, establishing foundational practices and frameworks for the organization
  • Lead discovery and definition on ambiguous, high-stakes problems, translating business objectives and user research into clear design strategy
  • Partner with Product Management and Engineering leadership to influence roadmap priorities, scope, and technical trade-offs
  • Work closely with engineering teams to understand constraints and make tradeoffs, helping define feature details decomposed into stories
  • Plan and interpret user research and usability testing in partnership with our go-to-market organization; validate design decisions with qualitative and quantitative signals
  • Serve as the trusted advisor to executive leadership on design maturity and UX priorities, and represent design in executive reviews, articulating rationale, trade-offs, and measurable impact to senior stakeholders
  • Identify and resolve systemic UX debt, inconsistency, and friction across the product surface
  • Mentor and upskill engineers and product managers on UX fundamentals and craft, raising the design fluency of the organization

Benefits

  • Competitive benefits
  • Support for remote work or a desk with a view
  • Weekly Q&A sessions with our executive team
  • Open paid time-off policy
  • Healthcare benefits
  • 401(k) plan and company match
