About The Position

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently seeking a junior or mid level Energetics MFG engineer (level 2 or 3) also known as a Tool Engineer to support our Clearfield Facility in Utah. Candidate will be responsible for the concept, design, engineering, fabrication drawings, inspection requirements, procurement requirements, verification requirements, and fabrication support for tooling and equipment for Aerospace applications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor in a STEM discipline with a minimum 5 years technical experience in engineering, design, and fabrication of special tooling and related equipment.
  • May be hired one level lower (level 2) with B.S. and 2 years minimum equivalent technical work experience
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate vendor and equipment capability and ability to perform required tasks to include production of tooling as well as unique aerospace part production.
  • Experience with hand calculation analysis and Finite Element analysis practices
  • CAD modeling experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate and present to large audience of upper management of 20 or more
  • Experience with concept of design for manufacturing
  • Experience with various inspection methods and understanding design for inspection
  • Ability to travel to suppliers to inspect equipment prior to shipment (15-20% travel)

Responsibilities

  • Interface with review team to assure customer satisfaction with design
  • Manage projects and coordinate all procurements and fabrication to meet the program cost and schedule requirements
  • Inspect fabricated support hardware to assure compliance to design
  • Work alongside the manufacturing team to ensure overall program quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved
  • Work with internal customers to define needed support equipment for new and existing programs
  • Develop tooling concepts, creating/reviewing and improving manufacturing processes to meet customer requirements
  • Work closely with tool designers to create final drawings
  • Perform stress analysis to assure mechanically sound per NG requirements
  • Understand/monitor cost and schedule
  • Review engineering drawings and designs for manufacturability
  • Travel to suppliers to support them as needed during fabrication
  • Inspect tool configuration for drawing compliance, including fit, form and function
  • Support continuous improvement
  • Support operations and process engineering in the use of all tooling
