Principal Technical Program Manager

Wonder•New York, NY
•$193,500 - $203,000

About The Position

As a Principal Technical Program Manager at Wonder, you will shape how the product and engineering organization plans, delivers, and measures its work. You will partner with directors and senior leaders to maintain the health of a broad portfolio of programs and address complex cross-functional challenges. You will define milestones and success measures for complex initiatives, make decisions under uncertainty, and create frameworks and mechanisms that improve team effectiveness. You will translate technical risks into clear business decisions for stakeholders from engineering teams through executive leadership. The role owns delivery health across multiple product engineering teams, develops planning and operating-cadence standards, addresses systemic organizational bottlenecks, and influences scope and priorities through delivery data and business impact. It also involves executive communication, cross-functional leadership through influence, and mentoring TPMs and other leaders. You will shape how delivery is measured and reported, including through AI-assisted tooling. Wonder is a mealtime platform offering dishes from more than 20 exclusive restaurants through delivery, dine-in, and pickup. The company owns and operates the dining experience from recipe development to the technology that powers it.

Requirements

  • 6–8 years of technical program management experience or comparable experience, including leading programs and processes across multiple teams or a full product engineering group.
  • Strong technical fluency to engage credibly with engineering leaders on tradeoffs, pressure-test estimates and dependencies, and understand how technical decisions affect scope, sequencing, and risk.
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools to increase velocity and quality.
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as Jellyfish, Jira, SQL, BigQuery, Datadog, and Redash.
  • Data literacy to connect delivery data to business outcomes, distinguish signal from noise, and assess AI-generated analysis.
  • Track record of independently defining goals, milestones, and success measures for large, ambiguous, multi-quarter initiatives and driving them to completion without requiring a manager to frame the work.
  • Demonstrated success building and rolling out planning or delivery frameworks adopted across a group or organization.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to executive audiences and tailoring language and detail to the audience.
  • Ability to influence without authority, build trust with directors and senior leaders, and navigate complex stakeholder environments.
  • Experience mentoring other TPMs or program managers and setting standards for the craft.
  • Strong judgment in ambiguity and ability to identify opportunities to improve operating efficiency and implement solutions at scale.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the technology or food delivery industry.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the health and delivery of programs and initiatives across multiple product engineering teams, partnering with leadership to keep the portfolio on track.

  • Partner with leaders to ensure operating processes support efficiency and strategic goals.
  • Identify recurring bottlenecks and opportunities across organizational boundaries, then build durable, scalable mechanisms to address them.
  • Find synergies and opportunities for integration between teams and processes.
  • Shape scope and prioritization decisions across the group using delivery data and business impact, partnering with engineering leadership where technical strategy and program delivery intersect.
  • Communicate vision, strategy, and status to senior and C-level stakeholders; translate technical risks into actionable business decisions and resolve issues while remaining close to program details.
  • Coordinate across teams, departments, and leadership levels; align stakeholders on bold or high-risk directions and navigate complex stakeholder dynamics with empathy.
  • Mentor and coach TPMs and other leaders, shape delivery tracking and reporting—including AI-assisted tooling—and promote high performance, accountability, and candid, constructive feedback.
