About The Position

The Principal, Technical Program Manager leads complex, large-scale technology programs by defining goals, managing cross-functional dependencies, and driving end-to-end delivery. This role requires expertise in program planning, technical design, risk mitigation, and stakeholder engagement to ensure scalable, high-quality solutions. The position involves coordinating multiple teams, resolving ambiguities, and optimizing workflows to meet strategic objectives. The successful candidate will leverage strong communication and analytical skills to influence outcomes, mentor team members, and continuously improve processes, contributing to the advancement of technology initiatives within a dynamic environment. The Marketplace Tech & AI Strategy team leads enterprise-wide execution by integrating technology, operations, people, and investment through a unified platform. The team establishes sustainable governance and operating rhythms to advance initiatives independently. Focused on strategic planning, risk management, and data-driven investment decisions, it aligns technology strategy with business goals to support lasting transformation. Emphasizing effective project management, financial oversight, and stakeholder collaboration, the team ensures streamlined delivery and continuous improvement across Walmart’s marketplace technology landscape, driving operational excellence and value creation.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in program and project management, including risk and stakeholder management across complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Proven ability to define goals, stage gates, and critical delivery paths for large-scale technical programs with multiple dependencies.
  • Strong technical expertise in system design, cloud infrastructure, software lifecycle, and service management frameworks.
  • Skilled in translating product requirements into scalable technical designs and ensuring operational excellence through monitoring and incident management.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage budgets, prioritize resources, and mitigate risks to drive successful program outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills to align stakeholders, report progress, and resolve ambiguities effectively.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.
  • 8 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Project Management.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, with specialization in strategy, supply chain, finance, information systems, or related area and 4 years’ experience in product design.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

  • Lead end-to-end system design discussions ensuring scalability, high availability, and performance.
  • Identify risks, develop mitigation plans, and manage issues to maintain program momentum.
  • Establish and improve scalable workflows, prioritization frameworks, and operational excellence practices.
  • Communicate progress and risks effectively to stakeholders, aligning teams and facilitating decision-making.
  • Mentor team members on best practices in program management and technical execution.
