Principal Technical Program Manager

Zocdoc•San Jose, CA
•$195,000 - $250,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Zocdoc's most important asset is our people. As a Principal Technical Program Manager for Practice Solutions, you will own and drive the most complex, cross-functional technical programs across the business unit, the initiatives that span multiple engineering teams and product domains and that no single team can deliver alone. Practice Solutions powers how healthcare practices run their day to day across every patient access channel: phone, web, marketplace, and partner syndication. That includes Zo, our AI phone assistant, along with our provider directory and booking platform, intake and pre-appointment workflows, calendar and scheduling experiences, and the services that keep availability accurate across channels. You'll operate at the intersection of Engineering, Product, Design, Analytics, and go-to-market leadership to deliver scalable, highly available, multi-tenant SaaS capabilities. You'll bring structure to ambiguity, drive sequencing across teams, surface architectural and operational risk early, and keep the trains running on time, all while raising the bar for how program execution happens across the entire business unit. This is a highly visible role with significant autonomy and influence.

Requirements

  • A strong bias to action and an ownership mentality
  • 8+ years in Technical Program Management, Engineering Program Management, or a similar technical leadership role
  • A track record delivering large-scale, cross-functional initiatives in a product-led SaaS environment
  • A strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud architectures (AWS or equivalent), and event-driven systems
  • Demonstrated ability to reason about architectural tradeoffs without owning implementation, and enough technical depth to hold your own in a room full of senior engineers
  • Experience driving programs that span multiple engineering teams with shared platform dependencies
  • The confidence to drive accountability and momentum across all levels of an organization without relying on formal authority
  • Excellent communication skills, including clear written status and risk framing for both engineers and executives
  • A Bachelor's degree in a technical field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems) or equivalent practical experience
  • Humility. You believe in treating all people with dignity and respect, regardless of title or tenure, and you approach tough conversations with empathy

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in healthcare or another regulated, multi-tenant domain is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Organizing and driving the business unit's planning cadence, coordinating inputs and stakeholders across engineering and product and keeping the cycle on track so strategy turns into a clear, committed, sequenced roadmap

  • Translating high-level business and product goals into structured program plans with clear sequencing, milestones, dependencies, and measurable outcomes
  • Building the reporting and transparency that give leadership a clear, honest view of status, dependencies, and risk
  • Partnering closely with senior engineering leaders to anticipate architectural and operational risks before they surface in production
  • Digging into technical issues at the seams between teams, triaging, framing the problem clearly, and pulling the right architects and engineers together to solve it
  • Surfacing tradeoffs between speed, scope, reliability, and technical debt, and facilitating clear, well-reasoned decisions at the right level
  • Clarifying ownership boundaries and reducing cross-team friction where systems, incentives, or customer journeys overlap
  • Establishing and refining lightweight mechanisms that improve transparency, accountability, and long-term platform health
  • Communicating program status, risks, and key decisions clearly to executive stakeholders and business unit leadership
