TechOps Transformation

F5•Seattle, WA
•$193,600 - $290,400

About The Position

F5 is modernizing the technology foundation used across the company. The Principal Technical Program Manager for TechOps Transformation will lead a multi-year program to move a large, aging hybrid technology estate to a modern architecture and operating model. The role drives cross-functional transformation across infrastructure modernization, cloud and application migration, automation, and AI-enabled operations, working with Infrastructure, Cloud Operations, Enterprise Architecture, Security, application teams, business units, and external delivery partners. The program is intended to produce measurable outcomes including reduced risk, faster delivery, and a scalable technology estate. The role translates architecture and transformation strategy into sequenced, funded execution. It owns planning and delivery across parallel workstreams, establishes roadmaps with dependencies and success measures, and governs scope, budget, milestones, risks, and benefits. It also supports organizational adoption of new platforms, standards, and working practices, with success measured by adoption as well as delivery. The position calls for extensive experience leading large, complex enterprise IT transformations and communicating technical and financial trade-offs to executives. The job description presents a future vision of a platform-default estate, self-service infrastructure, increasingly autonomous operations, automatically generated audit evidence, and resilience demonstrated through regular recovery testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12 or more years of progressive experience in technical program management, IT program management, or a similar role in a complex, global enterprise technology environment.
  • Proven track record leading large, multi-year IT transformation programs with significant budgets, multiple workstreams, and executive visibility.
  • Five or more years of hands-on program experience in at least three listed areas: data center and infrastructure modernization; virtualization or hypervisor migration and consolidation; hybrid or multi-cloud adoption and cloud migration; application portfolio rationalization and modernization; infrastructure automation, IaC, CI/CD, and self-service platforms; IT service management and CMDB; or AIOps, observability, or autonomous operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of enterprise architecture concepts, Zero Trust security, and resilience patterns such as high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and RTO/RPO tiering.
  • Experience managing global delivery models across onshore teams, offshore engineering, and third-party partners.
  • Strong financial and portfolio management skills, including business cases, cost baselines, stage-gated funding, and benefits realization.
  • Exceptional executive communication and influence without authority, including the ability to simplify complex technical trade-offs for senior leaders.
  • PMP, PgMP, SAFe, ITIL, or equivalent certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Cloud certifications such as AWS or Azure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and execution of an enterprise IT transformation program across platform and infrastructure, migration and applications, and operations workstreams, keeping them aligned to a target architecture, budget, and business strategy.
  • Translate target-state architecture, guiding principles, and current-state gaps into phased roadmaps with dependencies, resourcing, milestones, and success metrics.
  • Coordinate data center and infrastructure modernization, including end-of-life hardware refreshes, hypervisor and virtualization transitions, storage and network modernization, and legacy environment decommissioning while minimizing business disruption.
  • Establish and operate a wave-based application migration factory; facilitate portfolio triage with application and business owners using disposition frameworks such as the 6Rs; and track migrations through legacy cost retirement.
  • Partner with platform teams to advance self-service, infrastructure as code, CI/CD-driven change, and AI-assisted operations as part of the operating model.
  • Work with Security and Resilience teams to incorporate Zero Trust, policy as code, high availability, disaster recovery, backup, and audit-evidence capture into the target platform.
  • Establish program governance, steering committees, decision records, and exception processes; set baselines and report outcomes such as technology currency, vulnerability exposure, cycle time, and operational efficiency.
  • Prepare executive updates and decision packages; facilitate scope, sequencing, and funding trade-offs across Technology, Finance, and business leadership; and manage onshore, offshore, and third-party partner delivery.
  • Drive adoption of new platforms, standards, and ways of working through enablement, embedded engineering support, and clear communication; measure adoption as well as delivery.
