Principal Technical Product Manager

Micron Technology•San Jose, CA
•$114,000 - $224,000

About The Position

Micron Technology is hiring a Technical Product Manager for its Core Data Center Business Unit data center SSD Product Management team. The role helps define and drive technical development of next-generation Micron data center SSDs. Within a product line led by a senior TPM, the position owns requirements for an assigned product, feature area, or customer program and collaborates with customers and internal stakeholders across engineering, operations, media architecture, and other groups. The TPM gathers documented and implicit customer requirements, evaluates gaps against Micron capabilities, and turns those needs into clear SSD specifications for OEM server and storage, public cloud, public GPU, Fed/Gov, and Fortune 500 cloud SSD markets. The successful candidate brings either advanced depth in one SSD domain or thorough working knowledge across several domains, and operates as an independent contributor and trusted technical contact for Micron engineering and customer technical teams. This role is suited to an engineer or product professional seeking to move closer to customers and product definition. It requires analytical judgment, thoughtful evaluation of trade-offs, curiosity about customer needs, and the ability to communicate complex technical topics to both technical and nontechnical audiences. The position also applies AI tools, including LLM-based and agentic tools, to scale requirements and program work through reusable processes.

Requirements

  • Ability to collaborate with and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Advanced knowledge of one storage-related domain, or thorough working knowledge of several, such as NVMe interface, NAND, ASIC, DRAM, networking, firmware, software, validation, servers, GPUs, or QoS.
  • Experience writing or contributing to requirements, specifications, or test plans that translate customer or system needs into clearly defined features.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with comfort working through ambiguity within direction set by others.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to exchange complex technical information with colleagues, managers, and customer engineers.
  • Curiosity about how current product needs shape future requirements and interest in growing toward broader product strategy ownership.
  • Working business acumen, including understanding how cost, schedule, and market timing affect product decisions.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and across multiple locations and organizational boundaries.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • BS or BA degree in engineering or a technical field.
  • At least 3 years of combined engineering, product development, applications, or customer-facing experience in storage and/or semiconductors; an MS or PhD in a relevant field may offset some of the experience requirement.
  • Solid state drive and/or hard disk drive experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Customer-facing technical experience with OEM, hyperscale, or enterprise storage customers.
  • Familiarity with data center SSD industry specifications such as NVMe, PCIe, and the OCP Datacenter NVMe SSD specification.
  • Exposure to SSD product development stage gates, qualification, or product life-cycle management processes.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the voice of the customer on product development teams for an assigned product, feature set, or customer program, executing against the product plan set by the product line lead.
  • Own and maintain customer-driven requirements documents for the assigned area, and contribute to launch materials, technical marketing collateral, and datasheets.
  • Compare product requirements with customer requirements, perform specification gap and competitive analyses, and recommend ways to close gaps.
  • Work daily with engineering to evaluate issues, define solutions, and inform development decisions and trade-offs.
  • Track current and emerging SSD features and data center storage market trends, and assess their business viability, technical feasibility, and suitability for end-customer workloads and use cases.
  • Build working technical relationships with customer engineering teams, ask targeted questions to understand requirements, workloads, and pain points, and feed findings into product and pathfinding discussions.
  • Prepare and present area-specific content in concept reviews, design reviews, and technical stage-gate reviews.
  • Support Quarterly Technical Reviews and other engagements with OEMs, hyperscalers, and industry partners by presenting material for the assigned area.
  • Ensure data center SSD needs for the assigned area are represented in Micron's Product Life-Cycle Management planning process.
  • Keep technical product details and data accurate in Micron databases and requirements management tools.
  • Plan and run small projects or workstreams end to end, such as feature definition, competitive analysis, or resolution of a customer technical issue.
  • Work with technical customer teams to help resolve customer technical issues.
  • Share knowledge with less experienced team members and broaden cross-domain expertise through new assignments.
  • Apply AI tools to accelerate requirements analysis, documentation, and cross-program comparison, including automated requirements comparison and validation, and turn manual program-by-program efforts into reusable, scalable processes.

Benefits

  • Choice of medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • Income-protection benefit programs in case of illness or injury.
  • Paid family leave.
  • Paid time off.
  • Paid holidays.
  • Benefits may also include bonuses and equity.
