About The Position

Avery Dennison is hiring for a software engineering role within its retail technology platform. The position focuses on helping grocers modernize physical stores through Electronic Shelf Labels (ESLs), in-store printing, and digital video screen campaigns. It combines technical strategy with business execution: initially, the engineer will work as a high-level individual contributor building solutions, then transition into a technical leadership role as the team scales. The role involves overseeing software products and cross-functional development, directing the software lifecycle from conception through deployment, operation, and maintenance. The engineer will clarify business needs, contribute to long-range system planning, ensure products and services meet business requirements, and establish technical standards that support quality and reduce technical debt. They will also evaluate whether to integrate third-party partners for faster delivery or build bespoke solutions for competitive advantage, with technical investments tied to profitability.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of professional software engineering experience.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop software solutions for digital screens and Electronic Shelf Label integrations during the initial 0-to-1 phase.
  • Collaborate with third-party hardware vendors to integrate their devices into the centralized platform.
  • Support in-store pilots by troubleshooting live production issues and deploying hotfixes during critical rollouts.
  • Evaluate the technical viability of third-party partners versus building in-house solutions, and advise leadership on technical feasibility.
  • As the product matures, help hire, onboard, and lead a team of engineers.
  • Establish code quality standards, CI/CD pipelines, and a development culture.
