Principal Software Engineer, Agentic UX
About The Position
As a Principal Software Engineer, Agentic UX in Agent Factory, you will build conversational AI experiences and ambient capabilities that bring Workday’s agents to life. The role focuses on connecting agentic logic directly to the user interface and owning features end to end, including orchestrating the agentic flows that power the user experience. You will design and ship scalable, reliable products that bridge AI capabilities and user intent and simplify complex business processes. You will collaborate with AI engineers, software engineers, product managers, and designers to ensure the interface is a seamless extension of the agent’s reasoning. Agent Factory consists of small, senior, cross-functional teams building production-grade AI embedded in Workday’s platform. Teams own problems end to end and work at the intersection of AI, platform architecture, and human workflows.
Requirements
- 12 or more years of experience in software engineering.
- 7 or more years of experience building and shipping user-facing software products.
- 3 or more years of experience building conversational or agentic AI applications.
- 5 or more years of experience leading projects or teams.
- Experience collaborating with product designers, or a portfolio demonstrating high-quality UX/UI design principles.
- Experience building and operating SaaS products in cloud environments.
- Familiarity with the tradeoffs and architecture of modern distributed systems.
- Knowledge of software development best practices, including DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and observability.
- Hands-on experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch.
- Success working in fast-paced, agile environments and cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical partners.
- Comfort working with ambiguity and translating complex problems into clear, thoughtful solutions.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, team-oriented environment and contributing to continuous improvement.
Nice To Haves
- TypeScript/React and Python/FastAPI experience are preferred.
- AWS experience is preferred.
- Exposure to additional programming languages such as Java for backend and TypeScript for frontend/full-stack development.

- Shape how users experience AI reasoning by bridging the gap between agent capabilities and clear, usable interfaces.
- Collaborate in an iterative, team-first environment that values strong engineering practices and continuous learning.
- Share knowledge, mentor teammates, and help raise the technical bar across the pod.
- Own features end to end, connecting agentic logic to the user interface and orchestrating the flows that power the user experience.
