About The Position

AMD is seeking a Principal Software Engineer, Agentic AI to rapidly build and prove new AI software opportunities and help keep the organization at the leading edge of agentic software development. The role is suited to an AI-native builder and broad generalist who ships quickly by directing AI agents, understands hardware, and works effectively with partners in ambiguous, fast-moving settings.

The position is based in Austin, Texas; Bellevue or Seattle, Washington; or Santa Clara, California, within a commutable distance to other AMD offices. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Requirements

• Strong programming skills and experience with modern AI/ML frameworks and inference.
• Bachelor’s, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

• Broad experience shipping software across products, domains, and layers of the stack.
• Deep, current, hands-on fluency with AI coding agents and agentic workflows.
• Hardware understanding from system level toward the metal, including how CPU, GPU, and NPU architecture, memory, power, and thermals shape software, and the ability to go deeper when performance demands it.
• Open-source experience.
• Graphics, gaming, or client platform experience.

Responsibilities

• Rapidly build prototypes and proofs of concept using agentic development workflows.
• Optimize prototypes on AMD platforms, going down the stack when needed.
• Work directly with partner engineering teams on joint technical work.
• Build and share agentic tools and workflows across the organization.
