Principal Software Engineer/Developer
About The Position
Delivers large-scale, multi-service Spring Boot solutions using advanced reliability and deployment patterns. Defines RESTful API standards and builds reusable Spring/OAuth2 components. Implements performance, resiliency, observability, and security patterns, including distributed tracing, mTLS, and automated security scanning. Uses business knowledge to translate divisional initiative visions into business solutions by developing complex or multiple software applications and studying alternatives. Analyzes and recommends changes to project development policies, procedures, standards, and strategies to development experts and management. The role participates in architecture design, defines and implements application-level architecture, and develops applications, components, and subsystems for complex divisional projects. It establishes project life-cycle plans across multiple platforms and is responsible for project goals, QA readiness, schedules, risk advice, documentation, and technical strategy. The position also serves as a primary liaison with business units, resolves project and technology issues, mentors junior team members, and performs complex technical and functional analysis across divisional initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, Software Engineering Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent), plus five years of experience as a Principal Software Engineer/Developer or in a closely related occupation designing and delivering UIs through end-to-end development using React, Spring Boot, and Jenkins within a regulatory compliance environment; alternatively, a master’s degree in one of those fields (or foreign education equivalent) plus three years of such experience.
- Expertise building scalable, reusable, intuitive front-end interfaces using modern component-driven architecture with React and Material UI, implementing type safety with TypeScript, and integrating interfaces with advanced microservices.
- Expertise developing cross-platform plugins and architecting reusable React-based task pane frameworks integrated with OfficeJS APIs, including RESTful services and reusable UI components for consistent functionality across extensibility platforms.
- Expertise analyzing and developing J2EE-based microservices for transferring data to downstream applications; architecting application build, test, and deployment pipelines using Jenkins; developing and hosting on web servers using Docker frameworks; and developing web applications and APIs in a Docker environment.
- Expertise architecting and integrating cloud-native microservices on AWS, including serverless solutions with Lambda, containerized workloads with Amazon ECS, container orchestration with Nomad, scalable storage with Amazon S3, secure service-to-service communication, and configuration management.

- Provides technology solutions to daily issues and technical evaluation estimates for technology initiatives.
- Advises senior management on technical strategy.
- Mentors junior team members.
- Performs independent, complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting divisional initiatives.
- Develops original and creative technical solutions for ongoing development efforts.
