About The Position

Parexel FSP is seeking a Principal Scientist I or II specializing in Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) and Open Access Instrumentation Support. This full-time role is based onsite at a client's facility in South San Francisco, CA. The position involves operating and maintaining open access LC-MS instruments and other related instrumentation, with responsibilities including daily instrument performance checks, routine upkeep, responding to and troubleshooting basic repair calls, coordinating complex repairs, managing cryogen orders, performing liquid nitrogen fills for NMR instruments, and cleaning ESI process sources. The role also assists with sample preparation, data acquisition setup for various analytical techniques, documenting LC-MS performance, and purity analysis of investigational compounds. Parexel FSP provides qualified technical professionals to support pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies in the development and delivery of new therapies.

Requirements

  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and hands-on knowledge in LC-MS is required
  • Mass spectral data interpretation including structural assignments of unknown compounds
  • Preparation of mobile phases for LC-MS instruments
  • Principal Scientist I: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least 3-5 years of experience or a Master’s degree in a relevant field with at least 1-2 years of experience
  • Principal Scientist II: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 7 or more years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a relevant field with 3 or more years of experience; or a PhD in a relevant field with at least 1 year of experience

Responsibilities

  • Checks instrument performance daily, and performs routine upkeep of open access LC-MS instruments
  • Responds to end-user repair calls for LC-MS instrumentation and troubleshoots/repairs simple issues such as leaks or clogs
  • Submits and coordinates repair tickets for more complex issues
  • Coordinates cryogen orders, and performs weekly liquid nitrogen fills for nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) instruments
  • Performs daily sample clean up on the open access NMR
  • Cleans electrospray ionization (ESI) process source and runs standards monthly
  • Assists with preparation of samples and set up of data acquisition for analysis by liquid chromatography (LC), by LC-MS, and Circular Dichroism (CD) Spectroscopy
  • Documents LC-MS performance and uptime
  • Assists with purity analysis of investigational compounds by LC
  • Maintains accurate documentation and records
